Awesome, thank you. I don't know why I never think of Banefire, since it is like the modern Torch and perfect in this case. Pretty sure I have a playset of it, too. I don't play much burn. I also never paid much attention to Defenders, and had never considered how well they can work together like this.

I love this. Dirt cheap and looks fun to play. Definitely going to put this together and add to my library. I would enjoy seeing the non-pauper version, too. ...and dang I'm hoping for a reprint of Kaerveks Torch, just to make it modern legal.
No, it only applies to tokens created after it enters the battlefield. Goes on the stack and is treated like any other instant spell. As it relates here, your opponent would cast it if they see you doing something to trigger Polyraptor, and then they would steal whatever tokens get made. By the time Cutpurse is in play, it's to late for you to cancel.
Yes, that's why I don't like to build everything about a single combo or particular card. My deck leans pretty heavy into getting the polyraptors on the battlefield, but the other dinosaurs are dangerous enough on their own to either force the opponent to deal with them or loose the game before the polys even get on the table.
I was playing my own raptor deck the other night, and even though it is less combo-heavy than yours, it was still a bad time for my opponents. By the time the Poly's start to show up it was more or less just game over because they spent a lot of their defenses on the other dinos.
LOL! Polyraptors + Anointed Procession.. oh man. That's a lot of math.
Nope! I started to mess around with my own raptor deck too, as well as a pirate deck to counter it. They are still vulnerable to non-damage destruction, you just have to be quick about it before they can start cloning. And you have things like Warkite Marauder that can gimp him, or Admiral Beckett that can steal them.
Not sure if I can still claim this to be a "budget" deck, but I ended up with two Jadelight Rangers so I swapped them in place of the Sunlight Seekers.
This looks like fun
Good stuff, thanks!
I've been playing around with your design and flavoring it to my own tastes:http://www.mtgvault.com/lyanheart/decks/exploring-the-wilds/I really, really like it and can't wait to actually play it once all the cards are available.Added a few ways to power-up and add Trample to the creatures at the expense of the some of the instant protections.
This looks like a fun deck. Gonna give it a try. Thanks for sharing.
Now this is a proper pauper. Very fast and functional, and dirt cheap. I dig it.I would probably use Boros Garrison or Guildgate instead of Evolving Wilds since the land would be tapped either way. Guildgate probably the safer pick.
Been playing around with this deck for the past week or so, and it has been a blast! Occassionally you'll have a bad hand, but more often than not you get some absolutely ridiculous hydras by turn 5. After that it's just nails in the coffin unless you're facing a lot of removal.
Thanks for the link. Looks like a really fun format!
Played around with this last night and made quite a few changes. Plays much faster now and incorperates more control.I added Postmortem Lunge to the sideboard for a little payback to lightning bolts, and extra Hands of Binding to help against other aggro.
upvote for Spider Umbra over Sidersilk Armor, bringing the whole deck in to Modern. The obvious drawback being it can only be applied to a single creature, but it's such a good enchantment, and essentially makes its creature indestructible. and I just like to keep things Modern.
After messing around with and playtesting this deck for a little while, it feels like it's both to slow 50% of the time and to fast 50% of the time. With a good draw, you can get the small unblockable creatures in play and start dealing damage and it feels like an aggro deck. If this is working, the game will be over before the high-cost Ciphers have a chance to do much. On the other hand, with a poor draw, the deck doesn't play fast enough and you can't get enough power on the board to prevent an onslaught from the opponent.... further testing may be required... haha
Not sure why I didn't consider this one for my standard-legal Hydra deck, actually. Economical alternative for a couple of my Nyea's, since trample is the major reason she is there.
I love the Paragon! I pulled one from one of my first M15 packs and havn't done anything with it yet. Definately will pick up a few more, though when I start playing more green.
