Paradox haze isn't worth the card slot.. Putting that in means that you won't sustain your cumulative upkeep for more than a turn.

Needs more counterspells. A good one to play early on is Rune Snag. Ok. Cut down your deck, add 4 more lands so that you can actually play your finishers, and possibly add Aeon Chronicler. And if you want to draw as many cards as possible for some reason, Flow of Ideas may suit you. However, you probably have enough card draw. Also, the person above me doesn't know the meaning of a counterspell control deck.
All it needs is a good artifact tutor. Actually, it needs two. Otherwise, it could really work.. Beware Unmake.
I see what you are doing. It's a cantrip idea so that you can fill up some card space. You probably want tutor for the druid, otherwise you probably won't get it out. If this is Standard Legal instead of Block, add Harmonize.
A generalized B/G deck. The only synergy I see is with Quillspike and your Abominations and Hatchlings.
Aether flash... 2 damage to a creature when it comes into play.. That ruins token armies..
Egotist is useful.. For clash, and high cmc spells. Still, Egotist's use is exactly why it's not on the list. Also, the uses for some cards such as moonlace, while useful in certain situations, is so situational that it's never used. That's why it's on the list.
However, note that despite being a good first deck, be aware that other new players who face it might not like the fact that their options become limited when facing this deck. They just can't deal with that many counterspells.
Not a bad deck for a first deck. A typical control deck.. Ok... You don't need any of your artifacts. And therefore the Archmage goes away. Remove Soul can get replaced with Rune Snag.. I think Aeon Chronicler would be good for the deck, since usually you end up holding the cards you have in your hand. Overbeing of Myth is equally acceptable. Plus, you only have Guiles to win the game for you.
Needs a couple more finishers. Also, beware of mana-generating artifacts.
The only deck that this deck would have huge trouble with is a burn deck. Zap the Quillspike in response to the Devoted Druid's untap effect.
Needs a Sneak Attack or a similar card.. Something that can suddenly pop out a huge guy for one turn.
However, if you don't get out its madness, then it sucks... That's the problem with black. They have promising cards when madness enabled, but the number of good enablers are pitifully low. There are only three that I can think of, and two of them, both red, are in this deck. The third one is the 2/2 black flier with haste and an echo cost of "discard a card". You don't get to play your madness when you want to with that card.
Wurmcalling is crazy with this mana. I have one and I have tried it. However, I think I can do better. Crush of Wurms is just amazing in this deck... Makes both Wurmcalling and Roar of the Wurm obsolete.
Because, in my opinion, black madness sucks.. There are a couple exceptions. I like Big Game Hunter, for example. You can play him for both costs reasonably and get a good effect out of him. Seriously though, when you think about it, red has much better madness cards in standard.. And it only has two!! Plus, Trespasser il-vec is a horrible madness enabler, and Oblivion Crown isn't much better.
Blood Knight is a good alternative to Keldon Marauders, if you feel that the vanishing is too strong of a drawback.. Of course, 5 total damage for two mana is still very good.
Still. From my playtesting, I ALWAYS got at least seven mana before I died or won the game. Plus, 17 1/1s can't kill an untouched player in one swing.
You should seriously play a Battle Of Wits deck.. If you want to play a 250 card deck, that's what you do.
Spikeshot Goblin is hideous with a power boost.. Firebreathing in this case should be replaced by something else, like Loxodon Warhammer. This deck probably wants Incinerates, Flame Javelins, and Pyroclasm against those pesky token armies. Lash Out is better than Barbed Lightning.
I personally like Deftblade Elite as a one-drop soldier. Honor guard is defensive, but not that defensive.
