First ImpressionsThis deck is all about fast aggro fun.Goblin Chieftain joining forces with Krenko, Mob Boss is the centerpiece of the deck.
Your ideal line of play is: Turn 1: One drop goblin Turn 2: Goblin Wardriver Turn 3: Goblin Chieftain. Swing for 9. Turn 4: Krenko, Mob Boss. Tap the hasty boss for five more goblins and swing for a bazillion damage. Really only 21, but that’ll probably do.Adding Hellrider into this pot of goblins seems really fun and potentially explosive. He gives the deck some nice additional options. Substituting him for Krenko on turn four in the scenario above would still allow you to swing for 13 damage and do four more directly to your opponent’s face. He also enables some alternate lines of play to maximize the early beats. This deck offers plenty in the way of reach against those pesky Planeswalkers who stabilize before your goblin minions can finish them off. Goblin Grenade and Brimstone Volley add six ways to do five damage, either to your opponent’s face or a creature that needs to go. Shrine of Burning Rage is back and reclaims it’s crown as the King of Reach. Potential ProblemsThe haters. There are still plenty of red hate cards out there. Timely Reinforcements will still get in the way of a good thing. Celestial Purge will leave many a goblin without a Chieftain. Thragtusk and Wurmcoil Engine are a pain if you don’t finish the job before they arrive.Land count. The deck tops out with five cards costing 4 CMC, and has six at 3 CMC. I tend to error on the side of more land and I wonder how many times you’d have a Krenko or Hellrider in your hand, unable to cast it on turn 4? Final ThoughtsThis deck looks really fun to play. Who doesn’t like turning creatures sideways and slinging burn spells now and again? I think a lot of its weaknesses are offset by the speed with which it can win and it’s reach. With a single goblin on the battlefield you can do ten damage for four mana by playing Goblin Grenade followed by Brimstone Volley. At right around 20 event tickets it’s a bargain to build on MTGO
