Deck Description

This deck revolves around burning and countering your opponents creatures and spells. Then after securing the battlefield, using crackleburr and gelectrode to also cause mass damage and control. This deck still needs a ton of work with a lot of 1-2 of cars and lack of power control cards like counterspell and lightning bolt. All suggestions are appreciated.

Deck discussion for Red/Blue Damage Control

Ignoring that there is no real sideboard yet, please give suggestions. I know that I am missing consistency 1-2 of cards always has bugged me but this is what I have now. Also I realize it is missing the power cards of counterspells and lightning bolts. I'm more looking of other combo cards to throw in this. The main problem is that it seems to be slow and if it doesn't gain control then it will never.

whats up on my man, i can most deff c the theme you r going here and i think i can help. first off isochron scepter is the best friend of these type of decks, if u wield it right it is really really really hear to beat a good isochron scepter deck. and u r right, lightning bolt, counterspell, incinerate, boomerang, all of these r needed in a red blue control deck. some protection for ur life is also needed, how about adding wall of tears, silent arbiter, pyroclasm to keep the opponent from being able to touch u. i love gelectrode in this deck, its just the type of control base that is needed. i would also add Cinder Pyromancer for the same reason, that way u can keep the opponents field clear and slowly pick away at their life

i also like Browbeat for a deck like this, its prolly the most controversial card ever made, but lets think about it, either way it works for u, 5 damage or 3 cards for 3 mana, yes please. but any way u go witht his deck it should work out pretty well. if anything i said was confusing or u dont agree with jsut mesage me again and we will try and work on it together, and if u want i can help with anything else ur workin on, keep up the good work my man

Wow, I had never really though of adding that kind of style to the deck for control. I was going to temper with boomerang but it really does make sense. Wall of tears is amazing, I will definitely get that. BUt yeah my biggest fear was that Isochron would be mentioned only because I used to have 3 and then they were stolen :(. Now that I look at the price it is 5 dollars and above on my budget right now haha. I do like and have considered pyroclasm but I fear it would kill all my creatures as well either that or I don't understand how I would play it right. I am lucky with browbeat cause I think I have one through my old Pulverize preconstructed deck and I agree what a awesome card. Silent ARbiter will be a must even though he is kind of expensive to get out without any mana acceleration. I do like Cinder Pyro he adds to the theme and I guess I'll wait on lightning bolts and counter spells when i see their prices drop more.

My next problem is what would I take out in order to add such cards or being to make changes. By taking out some of the R/U multiucolored creatures, it puts crackleburr at a disadvantage. I love gelectrode but I also like dealing 3 damage and returning a creature all in one turn for 4 mana then attacking. I want to put in so many of the suggestions but doing it I think it will be hard. I think I will get rid of my dismisses, there are better control cards. The main thought behind the deck when I started was to continually counter, burn, and attack while drawling cards and never running out of ammo. Thank you so much for the advice and please continue to give it!!!

if your looking for cheap counterspells you might think about putting in mana leak???

Yeah wow... As I am bringing mana leaks out of my one deck to put in i read that comment chris :P I have been thinking a lot about it and I definitely agree, Isochron scepter is a must. There is so much you could do with it... Boomering... Counterspell... Mana Leak... and if I get 2 in my hand put more of that out. It would be so effective in control. I am pronbably going to be putting 2-3 silent arbiters because he can take damage and really control teh battlefield while i set up. I am definitely keeping Gelectrode(probably getting more) and Crackleburr. Crackleburr is something that would work with arbiter because I can use his ability to do damage and return. The problem lies with me taking out a bunch of my red/blue cards and putting in such artifacts and main blue spells. I would definitely need to make sure that most games I can have 3 red/blue creatures out and keep them out to make him effective. The Wall of tears will probably go in with 2. Cards that I'm going to replace will be Shrewd Hactching, Wee draugs, Spellbound Dragon, Dismisses, and dream fracture for now. There are a lot cards I want to add in so this is going to be a very hard process.

Question: Do you think the cards Snap(because I can return a creature for free) or Serum Visions(for the cheap cost and scry 2), or Brainstorm would be a good choice to add in (also with isochron's ability to abuse these cards)??

With regard to Cinder Pyro, I think I rather just add more razorfin knights and gelectrodes. They are cheaper and they are red/blue and have sort of the same idea even though the knight doesn't untap when a spell is played.

Question: Does Isochron Scepter count as playing actually playing the spell meaning would glectrode be triggered by its effects? I know that actual copied spells don't because they are never played, they are just copied and added to the stack. However with scepter, I'm not quite sure.

i like it, but lash out might not work for you. in any red damage deck i'd use banefire or demonfire (even fireball works), but with all the low mana costs, lash out seems to just hurt you.

Ok I have updated the deck to what I think would work a lot better now. There is definitely more consistency. I am working on getting the counterspells and Lightning bolts. Isochron and Silent arbiter will help run it.

As to lash out, I think it is almost as good as incinerate even though i don't make sure the creature is dead - it's 2 mana, instant, 3 damage, and I get to clash meaning I get to see my top card to see if it is something that I want. I can see what you mean that it could hurt me because my opponent sees what it is but for now I am going to keep it in until I can get more of a better card like magma jets or lightning bolts.

I appreciate the advice from everyone I still need to get rid of some other cards to make room for 2 wall of tears because they will provide safety as well.

2 cards, Niv-Mizzet and the 1 drop creature enchantment that lets you draw a card each time the enchanted creature deals damage to a creature or player is an infinite loop with Niv-Mizzet for damage and draw. Enough said lol! I can remember its exact name but im sure if you use the Wizards of the Coast gatherer and do some searching through Articles involving Niv-Mizzet im sure youll find the name of the card. Its 1 Blue Mana is all I really remember and that effect. Build around that with Red for Removal and Blue for Control and try using Nevinyrals Disk for board control is what I can tell you. Think my Landstill deck but without White and adding Red for removal.
