When I first saw "Echo Mage", I fell in love with the creature. This combination of devious old school red/blue magic (after all, some cards have been banned) and modern blue dickery (thanks, Jace!) is designed to make the best use of his abilities. It was hard squeezing all this awesome into only 60 cards in the deck and 15 in the sideboard, so I went up to 75 in the deck!
The idea behind this deck is simple. Counter, control, or copy everything your opponent lays down on the field. The tricky part is patience, both in and out of battle. Before each game, carefully consider the cards in the sideboard. Against a green deck, some clones will wreak havoc. If you are fighting a black deck, keep some counter spells handy to deflect deadly spells. [[Talrand, Sky Summoner]]and [[Talrand's Invocation]] will see much use against enemy decks with load of fliers. And so on.First of all, read up on the m14 comprehensive rules. Especially important are rules about spells; instants, countering, the stack, exiling, and (surprise!) copies. Even though some cards are illegal, you should abide by official rules about them, which in effect change the text on the card. For example, [[eye of the storm]] casts copies in a unique way that does not activate it's own ability.I challenge any woman or man to morph this deck into a 5-color counter deck, possibly with [[birds of paradise]]. I want to see some [[doom blade]]'s and [[lightning helix]]'s for the [[Echo Mage]] people!
