Questions and Answers:
This version relies more on Life-Link than Extort why?

It looks that way, however the life-link is a "support" mechanic for Extort. To get a better understanding of Orzhov and making extort competitive, you have to see the meta a little deeper.

How do you win in Magic The Gathering?
The primary way is Reduce Opponents life total to zero.

So look a bit deeper than that. If your swinging with a 4/4 with first strike and Death touch and I have a 2/1 vampire with life-link. What happens? You kill my creature but you just fed me 2 life.

Rhox Faith mender is on the field so... I gain 2 more. you have fed me 4 life.

My turn comes and I sign in blood and extort it 3 times. I gain 6 life (rhox), Draw two Cards and you lose 3 life.

Lets then say Exquisite blood is on the table. I now gain 3 more life because you lost 3 life. I swing with the screecher for 1 and you lose 1 , i gain 3. Getting the picture?

Between your combat and my end step I have gained a total of 16 life and you have lost 4 Life.

I can then eat the next 16 damage you send at me and it really only cost me a 2/1 creature to do it. Plus I got to draw two cards and deal you 4 damage. And this is with cards like Ready // Willing and Crypt Incursion in the side board.

You have lost life. I have gained life. I am winning the race to zero. Swinging with the team isn't an option because you open yourself up to all the life link and all my extort. You are still losing the race. Dragon's Maze has given Orzhov what it needs to be competitive.

Play Testing of Version 8 Revealed:
Version 8:
Played splendidly. Mana was right all night, Draw was right, I stayed above 22HP every match I won.

Deck discussion for Merciless Orzhov v.11

The better version 11. My spontaneous suggestions:
-1 Exquisite Blood (expensive Enchantment that does not help you win faster)
-1 Killing Wave (how many times do you want to kill everything?)

I am combo'ing Exquisite Blood with Killing Wave :) for every creature they keep. I get to keep one at no loss of life. When I killing Wave it is normally for 9 or more. EG: Turn 4 Crypt Ghast into a turn 5 Killing Wave for 9. Turn 6 I am consistently dropping Exquisite Blood.

That turn 5 Killing Wave though. If they keep one. I will do the same and keep Crypt Ghast. Version 8 consistently comes back stronger after the board wipe. I can easily get back to 22+ LP. I love that version of the deck. It just isn't strong enough to "get there" consistently. Against Agro? It wins every time. that killing wave for 9 just sticks it to their asses. Turn 5 they have blown their load. Jund Rites , more often than not. Esper, 50/50. Naya consistent wins.

Everyone at the LCS is leaving behind Jund and Naya and moving towards Boros, Azorius and splashing Selesnya.
I have several people slurping at my feet for the Armed // Dangerous 's and the Tajic, Blade of the Legions I pulled from the two pre-releases I did this weekend. My girl did even better pulling a play set of Savageborn Hydra , 2 Advent of the Wurm , 1 render silent, and 2 AEthering. go go buying Pre-Cons. Getting amazing pulls from highly coveted Boosters.

Cruncher, I like this build but im not sure about the curve. That 4 count of 9 cards. with only 24 in the 1/2 range has me nervous about getting mana screwed. 24/16 --- I'd like it to be 30 in the 1&2 range and 10 cards 3+ Mana.

If I drop the Pontiffs and the Blood Baron I can get that. Thoughts?

You could remove one of each and add two lands, that should make quite the difference.
With 24 lands you should get to 4 mana most of the time, also anything above 8 one-drops should also be reliable. However you mostly use spells to remove or to extort... not much need for one drops.
