Deck Description

Dying Shades. Version 5.
(Thank You all for the suggestions on Version 4. )
This version:
*Incorporates Orzhov infinite combo

This deck from the start has been about making a twist on a old school drain life deck using Dying Wish on Gateway Shades then sacrificing them to the alter of Direct Damage. Over the course of the previous four revisions I have incorporated Orzhov more and more. Play Tested and even utilized the Extort feature paired with main boarding Mutilate to create version 4. A Solid deck worth playing.

Version 5. Comes from spending quite a bit of time online looking through cards for Type II and Extended. As I am a returning player and have missed ten years worth of Magic The Gathering Releases. Since I am constantly revising this deck, All my Orzhov Cards sit on my desk in front of me, waiting for inspiration to hit. Last night I stumbled upon an interesting card. Exquisite Blood from Avacyn Restored. When this card is paired with Vizkopa Guildmage from Gate Crash, then extorted for 1. The combination turns infinite. I am aghast that every Orzhov deck on this site isn't running this combo. I cannot possibly be the sole person to have hit on this. Gate Crash has been out for what? Months now?

So I proudly Present version 5. Dying Shades.

And as always a twist of lemon with some sweet n low.

How to Play

Exquisite Blood + Vizkopa Guildmage + extort (or any life gain) = Infinite Drain Life / infinite Gain Life.

Deck discussion for Dying Shades v.5

A good add on the land side is Isolated Chapel from Innistrad. W/B Land that comes into play untapped if you control a plains/swamp.

The more swamps I take away the weaker mutilate, Crypt Ghast and Liliana's emblem become.

Many players don't run the combo because they only play with friends and have banned infinite combos, even though I don't know why they would do that (it's not like you can demonic tutor + dark ritual the combo in Type-2).
I would put 1-2 Oblivion Rings in the sideboard to make a bit more room in the deck. You have plenty of creature removal, so the ring would only be used against nasty enchantments. You could even put more creature removal in instead of the rings.
Re-add the sideboard!

Meta gamed with the owner of the LCS. Apparently this is a very well known combo in the store. So as soon as Vizkopa or Exquisite hits the table everyone will know whats up.
