Deck Description

Always wanted to use Doran. This is my attempt at it.

Got a lot of inspiration from other Doran decks. I decided to keep it fun and work exclusively with defensive cards to take advantage of Dorans special.

So fun to play, can't get enough of lulling combo decks into a huge attacks.

Advice is appreciated, this deck still needs a lot of work. Any cards other than Doran in the sideboard are cards I'm considering using but need to test first.

How to Play

I'll describe this section in great detail later after I get another twenty or so games in with this build.

Deck discussion for Doran, The Siege Tower EDH

Primeval is banned and wall of frost is a card that uses blue mana, that cannot be included in your deck list because it does not share a color identity with your commander.

As far as great creatures with big toughness goes, Elesh norn has won me games with this deck. Defense of the heart can help get creatures out very easily. Xathrid gorgon can also be a lot of fun. And theres a new card in Gatecrash, an instant: 1G: creatures you control get +0/+5 and reach until end of turn. Defense AND crazy offense at the same time. Oo, and reach of branches is a pretty neat tribal card for the trees. I love my doran deck, he may not always win, but hes always fun :]

Trostani would be an awesome card, she's still a 5/5 for 4 with Doran out but also will give you insane amounts of life from all your other high toughness creatures.

Playing black and green, you have no reason to be playing howling mine. Use some of that amazing black/green draw rather than helping everyone else. I would add quite a bit of additonal card draw if possible. Paying life for cards is a small price with as easy as you can gain it and how easily you can defend vs attacks.

You have a lot of global creature wipes instead of using ones that will likely leave your side unscathed. Wave of Reckoning is the perfect board wipe for a Doran deck. It will destroy most creatures your opponents control while not doing a thing to yours.

Elesh Norn does have a big behind and buffs your guys but also draws a big target on an otherwise low threat drawing deck. I would suggest Oathsworn Giant. He's not as big but offers the same buff as well as giving everything vigilance.

Seedguide Ash, it's a treefolk and when it dies it can pull 3 dual lands out of your deck.

I would probably include something like Dosan or City of Solitude so that once you are ready to alpha strike, you can't be screwed by a swords to plowshares on Doran leaving you connecting with a bunch of 0 power guys.

I would consider Gyre Sage over your Birds of Paradise. With the high toughness of your creatures, you will quickly get it to be very large on it's own as well as ramping you quite well at the cost of losing the non green colors of mana.

What's with the $700 tutor in an otherwise average value deck? If you can afford $700 cards, the deck could be made far more highly tuned.

Well I built this completely on here as a deck test. I could cut some of the more expensive tutors. Didn't even look at the price yet really knowing how much it will change while testing. Thanks for pointing out that needlessly expensive tutor.

You are incredibly knowledgeable, thanks for all the advise. I'll sit down in a bit and make the tweaks.

^ I like this guys comments. As far as the great green and black card advantage, phyrexian arena has helped my doran a LOT. Try and get your hands on that, a worldy and demonic tutor, and eladamri's call. Card advantage is what this deck needs the most. You do have an imperial seal (which is insane) and a vampiric which helps tremendously. Dosan, City of Solitude, and Grand Abolisher could help tremendously. Also, especially for multiplayer, i added the Sylvan and Luminate Priomordial cards from gatecrash, and they can be some VERY badass beaters/blockers on the field.

I'm building this deck online before doing it physically but price isn't a huge issue with me and magic.

Some great multiplayer additions tho. I'll dig in and apply all this help you guys are giving me.

AS far as tutors go, demonic tutor, enlightened tutor, and eladamri's call can help a lot. Murmuring bosk is a must have in here as well. Its a tribal treefol land, it counts as a forest, and taps for black white or green. Crocanura has helped me a lot with mine, considering almost every creature makes it bigger. Phyrexian obliterator, although power and toughness are the same, makes for an across the board good black creature. It has trample, and forces opponents that damage it to sac creatures, Especially with the right artifacts equipped to it.

Thanks for the input. I have the tutors mentioned already but Eladamri's Call will help a lot. I like Murmuring Bosk but I tend to shy away from pain lands all together.

Crocanura seems useful as a 4 drop but there are a lot better cards for the same cost. Phyrexian Obliterator could have a place. I'll add it in and see how it goes tonight in testing. With the right draw he could become a very scary blocker.

Crocanura only costs three, has reach, and gets bigger and bigger.

Was just looking at how it could build to insane levels with all the walls I'm using. You do make a good point.
