[Inspired by NorthernWarlord's Budget Series.]Are you new to Magic: The Gathering? Is your collection of cards lacking? Do you need a new deck for your game night with your friends? Well look no further than here!Though the time of the Alara cycle has passed, and the new set brings us Wedge color support. . . There's still nothing like a blast from the past! Utilizing the powers of the Abzan clan and the Heroes of Theros, you will have a fierce and powerful army in your hands! Send in your Heroes, like Fabled Hero and Battlewise Hoplite, then power them up with the help from Abzan cards, like Hardened Scales and Abzan Falconer, both cards help with your creatures, as almost all of them get +1/ +1 counters when their effects. Battlefield Thaumaturge is a key star in this deck, as he makes Icy Blast and Launch the Fleet stronger and cheaper! If your running low on cards to pump up your creatures, just shuffle them back into your deck with Elixir of Immortality! The colors of Bant in one hand, the power of Heroics and the Abzan clan in the other, truly, this is a deck to be feared! The Budget / Starter series is to help people to who are either new to the Magic: The Gathering, or simply those who can not afford to spend a lot of money on booster packs or individual cards. It can be of help to beginners or experts alike.[Please note that upon the making of this deck, some of the cards used have yet to be legalized.]

This is pretty damn cool. That Battlefield Thaumaturge + Launch the Fleet combo is so sick! Give all your creatures a Heroic trigger while also granting them the buffs from those two Abzan cards, while getting some soldiers too!Otherwise this is perfect, except it lacks some removal... How about sideboarding a copy or two of Curse of the Swine, since it is pretty awesome with Battlefield Thaumaturge. But as I said, this deck is very good! This is an another sample of your great deck building skills. I just feel bad since we are almost equal in deckcrafting, yet I still hoard almost all the viewers and likers. Right when you make this public, I'm going to "advertise" this deck a bit if you don't mind.

Sure, and thank you for the suggestions and compliments Northern! It helps me to keep on building!
No kidding, the combo with Launch the Fleet and Phalanx Leader gives all of your creatures more power to survive combat!
Dude, I really enjoy this concept, very original. Good work!
Thank you Ninja! Fun fact: My nickname is actually Ninja at the school I go to. Coincidence? Yeah, probably.
Sent here by Northy, to show some love.He thinks highly of your Budget decks. And that really does say a lot about the quality of your decks! If I remember correctly, so many people on here, you are the one that made several kick ass Aristocrat decks AND have not resources/friends to play Mtg with. That is sad, because you could really kick some butt with the types/quality of decks you have been making lately. So, you get a like from me, for what it is worth :)And Removal, as suggested by Northy. Only real flaw I can see.And most people sideboard removal on MTG anyways. Which you have done. Creature removal anyways. What about something like Naturalize, for those pesky Artifact/Enchantments?
That's what Solemn Offering is for, or do you think Naturalize would be better? And thank you for the support Jessie! It really means a lot to have one of the most known people on here comment on my little old work. And yes, I was that person. Had I the money, cards, and friends to play with, I'd be using almost all of these decks. But, until that day comes, I'll keep on building!Again, thank you for the support you and Northern have both given!
Nope, Solemn Offering works just fine. I missed it. My bad.
I believe you'd get moar value out of Reclamation Sage! For it is a body, with Naturalize as an ETB trigger.
travel preparations, use that if its not for standard play.
It is meant to be Standard play. However, thank you for the suggestion! I'm always happy to take in new advice and get new ideas to create my decks!
Hi! Sent by Northy, too XDA great deck at first glance. Really like how you joined Abzan's sharing +1/+1 abilities with Heroic. My suggestions would be as follows:1. I agree with removal. Swine is a great removal as suggested by Northy, but I would suggest more permanent removal or fight abilities instead since your creatures will get big very quickly (Mutant's Prey; Prey Upon; Setessan Tactics)2. Incremental Growth is a good card, but if you have room in your budget, Bow of Nylea is also a possibility for more utility.3. Lack of 1 drop creatures can be this deck's biggest weakness. Favored Hoplite or Herald of Anafenza XD4. A few bombs might work well here, although I don't know what you could put in for the budget. Possible ones I would suggest are Heroes' Bane, High Sentinels of Arashin, and Nessian Wild Ravager XDGood deck though XD
Thank you exodd for the suggestions! I will take them into consideration, and see how I could work with them!
Cool deck! This looks super awsome for the cost, I love battlefield thaumaturge with icy blast, they are super cool. +1 :)
Erase would be a sweet side board card instead of Solemn Offering especially against the Theros Gods
The only issue is that Erase only removes Enchantments. Solemn Offering can get both Artifacts and Enchantments, yet it can only destroy them. It is a bit of a preference thing, but I thank you either way for the suggestion!
Revoke Existence IMHO is your best choice, it offers exile for both for cheap. No lifegain but that's negligible.
FINNAALLY!Over the past few weeks the hot-decks section has felt so so stale to me, this deck reintegrates me to design decks again. :DI have a heroic deck, and it kinda fuctions like this one. It aims for the mid game and all that. You have plenty of evasion and protection for your creature, and that's good. The removal in the side is good for monsters, and mono green, as well as being able to be cheap enough to play around control... The one card that your missing is the bident. why is this card important you say? the card draw is INSANE. every game I resolve bident I win, end of story. It basically turns gods willing and feat into can-trips, and can act as pseudo removal by making your opponent run into you.Two would up your price by a dolla, and make this deck allot more viable late game.... THOUGH... I'm a really REALLY bad deckbuilder so the fact that I have suggest this card probably means you don't need it XDANYWAY +1 like. :3
Wow, I've never had anyone tell me that I've inspired them into deck building. I've had a time or two where I inspire a person to build a deck, but you are the first person who wants to build decks because of me. It actually makes me quite happy to know I've had a somewhat big impact on the community! Thank you Necru! And while I can agree that Bident is very nice, it doesn't really fit into my play style. Thank you though for the suggestion! I'll be sure to look at your decks and give you my support!
Sent by Northy also.Very nice deck! You do make quality decksQualities: mana curve, price, COMBOS, use of new cards, draw power, actually good, etc...The only thing I see is that you should consider adding more removal into the deck seeing how people I play with make their decks, but that might just be my school
Thank you Barracuda for the list of qualities! I generally prefer to make at least Modern-playable decks, so I will tend to use more "modern" cards in my decks. And yes, I agree that removal is important, I don't think this deck needs a ton of it. Thank you for the suggestion though!
No problem! But I'll aim for better suggestions next time I commentThat is what I aim for my decks too! (modern)I think I should start making decks again, you just gave the inspiration
Man . . . A single deck, and I've inspired not one, but two people to start making decks (again). I never thought I would have such an impact.
Should be a pretty nice feelingCan you help me finish my list for a samurai deck to get ready for the tournament at my school?Just one thing, excluding lightning helix and basic lands, I have 15$ to make it including shippingHttp://www.mtgvault.com/barracuda/decks/modern-samurai/Thanks
This is THE Abzan list for broke people. Don't be fooled by the ones on Salvation. The reason I can be CERTAIN you know what you're doing: you skipped over Abzan charm. It is the poopiest of the bunch. You have avoided the marketing trap and found an explosive solution in Thaumaturge - Launch the Fleet. Brilliant. I will be honored to sleeve this up for my next FNM.
I honestly thought the Mardu Charm was the worst, but maybe that's just me.And I thank you sir, for wanting to use my deck to help inspire you for your own deck!
Hats off to YOU, sir, for making this sort of consistency hyper-affordable.
Hey, if not for the support I receive from people like YOU, I probably wouldn't have made it this far. So again, thank YOU!
high sentinels of arashin would be a great addition to this deck
Perhaps he would better as a sideboard replacement for Abzan Battle Priest.
Would Abzan Ascendancy work for your concept. It combo's well with Hardened Scales and they're only a dollar each. Plus they're awesome for getting instant Outlast capabilities.
The only problem I have with Abzan Ascendancy is while yes, it is a good card, it has 2 problems in my eyes for this deck.A. The card's colors do not match this deck's main colors, and while this is meant to be a somewhat Abzan-themed deck, it's meant to use only Bant colors.B. The card is more so for a late game purpose and does use up some mana. You'll want to build up your army, then play it. It also would take room over other Heroic activating cards, and I'd rather not replace too many, if any, of those. However, I thank you for your suggestion though!
I've actually been running what is essentially this deck with more of an emphasis on strive spells for standard since Journey into Nyx came out, I'm working on updating it for Khans, but might end up taking it apart. I actually prefer Ajani's Presence over Dauntless onslaught, it serves a slightly different purpose, but I think the increased versatility is worth paying 2 mana for 2 targets instead of 1 mana.I'm also kind of torn on Icy Blast, its use is kind of restricted by the ferocious ability. If you used Glimpse of the Sun God instead you get a scry, but, you also get to target ALL of your heroic creatures (in addition to all of their blockers) with it if you have thaumaturge out regardless of whether you have a 4 power creature out, turning it into an amazing card. Icy Blast might be better because you can choose between keeping them tapped for 2 turns or keeping them tapped for 1 turn so that you can trigger all of your heroics, at the cost of giving them a turn to cast a new blocker.I just noticed you only have 2 thaumaturge, which might make it not worth running Incremental Growth, maybe Reap What is Sown? It can be cast with less than 3 creatures on the field too, which is nice.
You do know that icy blast is meant to, or at least it works real good by targeting opponents' creatures, right? And with thaumaturge, you only have to pay 1 mana whatever happensI've noticed the same about incremental growth, but it still works fine
This deck is awesome. Fabled Hero is one of my all time favorite creatures. +1 just for having him in this deck. I have read all the comments and the description. Does anyone have any post-game feedback for this deck? I would actually buy this deck if it works the way it's intended too, so I just want to know...aside from making a proxy of most of these cards. Thanks!FYI: I know this is a budget deck, but what about some delve cards? Evolving wilds is $0.12 mid-price. Would slim down your deck so you have a better chance of getting what you need, and also maybe getting a land you need as well. Just a thought since I've been using E.W. in all my decks lately. :)
It works the way it's intended to, just that it is vulnerable to removal, but against other aggro decks, it is really goodI've actually considered suggesting E.W. but with the dual lands, he doesn't need it that much, it could be useful though
Great Deck! Launch the Fleet and the Battlefield is a cool combo, has me thinking some deck ideas for sure.
Dollar for Dollar, this deck is amazing! Budget with incredible synergy! I imagine playing this in real life could get very cluttered. I am a fan of this deck.Like +1
hey dudes, check out bayesidellama088's hydra deck, and give him a few pointers, he wuld really appreciate it.thx in advance :)
Just a question would you have any recommendations if I wanted to make this deck less budget but more for FNM. Don't mean to offend you here I'm just wondering if there is a way to make it more powerful and stronger. It might already be at its best. And what do you mean by some cards still have to be legalised?
I'm unsure if the deck could improve. I'm sure it could, but unfortunately, I don't have the resources to test this deck out myself. And what I mean by legalized, is that according to the Wizards of the Coast, as of right now, these cards aren't allowed in Standard. Then again, it could just be that they haven't updated their Standard rules yet. I hope that clarifies that.
I would recommend medomai the ageless, Ajani mentor of heroes and vorel of the hull cladeOh, sorry legendaryhero7, I did not realize that medomai and vorel were pretty cheap, now I do recommend them to you :)As for testing the deck, I made proxys of it and I am doing that right now against my samurai for improvement, your deck beats my samurai about 7/10 games
cool thanks
No problemAlso sage of hours is baaaaaad in this deck, especially when combined with vorel
do you know for sure that this is still standard because if so what sets are still standard
I think this deck is Standard. But deck owner would know, better.
Elixir of Immortality is not std but as of 10/24 the rest are std
Reap what is sown, gives up to three creatures a counter, wich can triger three herois with one card.
I know I am shamelessly advertising, but I am Trying to drum up some interest in multiplayer decks on this site. I think it will be a welcome addition. So I'd like to get my multiplayer guide some attention. To do that, I'm wanting to get to the guide to the hot page to spark up some interest. Please check it out and if your interested in more multiplayer stuff, give me a like. http://www.mtgvault.com/biggeorge76/decks/how-to-multiplayer-decks/
This deck isn't standard because of the two elixirs of immortality. Substitute those two for one plains and a blue. I won FNM that way
What do you guys think of this?Infinite combo: Grafted wargear, shuko, umbral mantle, or lightning greaves, with a heroic creature!!I will be posting a deck out of this combo, please look at it when I post the link on here
http://www.mtgvault.com/barracuda/decks/infinite-heroic-combo/Please look at it
Sorry guys, never mind deck deleted
I like this, but I feel it needs some protection in sideboard against end hostilities or other wrath for example an Ajani's Presence or likewiseAnd I would remove Elixir of Immortality so its standard legal (Maybe just replace it with Gods Willing or Ajani's Presence )
Since you want to play it in standard, Elixir of Immortality unfortunately doesn't work anymore. You could toss in a couple Crypsis for some more creature protection or triton tactics for double heroic triggers.
wat duz this deck specilize in?
Heroic abilities to get counters and make huge creaturesHope this answers your question
thx:)
No problem :)
Nice deck!If your looking for some cheap removal, what about kill shot? Also I had some success running Crypsis instead of the elxir of immortality. I also might drop the divination for crippling chill.
