Red/Black piss your opponents off.
This is a test deck; I have yet to play it, however, it has a solid plan. Hand removal and spot removal backed up by hard to remove creatures with a pack rat/mutavault package. Send back bloodghast or blooadsoaked champion to make packrats, then add them to the board. The sideboard is in flux; I just played out things that play well against the overall meta. R/G aggro seems like the worst matchup. The mainboard Bloodmoon causes a lot of problems for most all decks. Make sure you fetch up the swamps before laying out that bloodmoon, bro.

It just seems like you're forcing skittles the blight dragon into your deck... better off as any other card.

I was pushing for a finisher. I just built the deck this morning as a test run after having a few conversations. He can win out of nowhere in my experience, ergo the 1 of. It's my sideboard that I'm really concerned with. What do you think of the pack rat utility built in?
I cant really comment on a sideboard with out knowing what your meta is like.He can be, he just 3 turns of surviving without pump spells...Temporal Extortion is another card that may just not cut it, these kinda choose cards are always bad, well besides vexing devil.Pack rat is a good card, dodges removal very well after a few turns, and turns any late game blank draws into fuel.I like it and have played it in modern.
What if, -1 Temporal Extortion, -1 Skittles, +1 Inquisition, +1 Thundermaw?
Seems fine to me lol. I'm a fan of both of those cards. You deck is decently poised vs most decks.Game 1 will come down to which half of the deck you draw.Game 2 should be much better.
I'm going to proxy it up and feel it out against the field. My primary modern deck is a rogue deck, until I Top 8 with it, I'm not releasing it to the public. It was helmed to a 2nd place finish in an IQ by my good friend, but that was a looooong time ago, so it's still hush hush.
I'm working on a modern turbo fog deck lolSo far on cockatrice it has been wrecking, but we all know most of the players on there are bad:P.I love playing lesser known or fringe decks.8-rackDimir milland Turbo fog are my babies.
8-rack. that sounds fun! link me!
http://www.mtgvault.com/viagrasaurusrex/decks/br-8rack-modern/This is my current list.It is basically an auto win vs combo, and is strong vs any blue based decks.infect/r-g tron can be rough, aggro decks are also tough.Slower decks like midrange or combo decks are what you want to play.Depending on meta it is a monster.
It looks fun as hell. I dig the idea behind it! God, we could only hope that Dark Ritual sees some unforsaken summoning in standard. But that won't happen. Whatever. I'll give this a try! My "local" meta is non-existent. The only Modern players are my play-group and like three other guys. Last IQ I missed top 8 on breakers, but it was Abzahn, Burn, Tron, G/R Aggro, Bloom, Twin, a rogue Merfolk, a rogue Artifact storm, and a Gifts deck. The USA decks all went x-2 drop.
This is my normal Modern deck. http://www.mtgvault.com/larkfellon/decks/modern-elves/
Seems like the mana base might be a problem, but only because of the mutavaults. Are you able to cast your double black and red spells easily enough even with the three colorless producing lands? Also have you considered Graven Cairns? Seems good in this deck considering you cast a lot of color mana intensive spells.
I'll take a closer look at the mana base, because I think you may be correct.
I went -2 Polluted Delta, +1 Graven Cairn, +1 Urbog, tomb of Yawgmoth
The main thing I have to be weary of is my own Blood Moon.
Right and it honestly does seem like your blood moons are making your deck worse, but I haven't tested with them. How have they been for you main board?
They are amazing main board. This deck has yet to go into playtesting. Let me make that clear. I will be testing it this week against Twin, Affinity, Elves, and Abzahn. The trick is, like Blue Moon, is that you need to fetch for your swamps, almost always.
Gotcha, well let me know how testing for this deck goes, I'm really curious now! :D
Will do! I'm excited to try it!
Sorry, it took so long. I played the deck last night for the first time against a Tribal Elves, it performed admirably going 3-0 main deck vs main deck. It top decks well and I really enjoyed the pack rats!
Nice! I'm honestly considering trying this deck out myself, I've been wanting to use the best midrange cards in Mardu for modern, so this deck is a pretty good reference for a start, thanks! :D
Of course! The only card I never found myself wanting to cast was Blightening. I may come back and take a look at what that could turn into.
Update: I played this deck against Splinter Twin and it faired well, however I'm going to be making a few changes. It went 1-3 but most were close games.
I made a deck like this a couple of days ago. It's pretty similar but plays less creatures. Does alot more board control. Check it out if you get the chance.
Your build is definitely much more control oriented. Our two decks are trying to do two different things, but with the same result, a win. I love Liliana of the Veil and wanted her to squeeze in here, but once again, I'm going for a tempo with the recurring creatures and want to start building pressure sooner, and I love Olivia; she may come in over 1 Thundermaw.
Yeah. I like that most of your creatures just happen without having them in your hand. My deck build was meant to punish 3 color midrange decks that shock their lands off of fetches. And have nothing but red mana after I land a Blood Moon on turn 3. Catches Abzan off guard all the time game 1.
Absolutely. I'm starting to see the U/R twin deck take over as the new #1 played deck in Modern, and why not? It's so successful, but it has it's faults. Mainly that everyone knows the base and can read the warning signs of the combo.
