Blue/Black Control of New Phyrexia. The idea is to constantly clean the field of opposition until I can get my creatures our and run over my opponent. If any of my creatures fall before the invasion, then Sheoldred will jsut bring them back to fight. --Sideboard-- -Hex Parasite is my little planeswalker killer. Though Hexmage would probably be more reliable, he would allow me to control planeswalker use rather than completely getting rid of them. Additionally, this little bugger grows stronger from feeding off of the counters on any permanent. -Consume the Meek is easily for token control and against weenie decks. -Flashfreeze is for definite side against Red and Green Decks. -Negate is used against other control decks that I play against for consistent counter, especially late game when both sides would have enough mana you push through a Spell Pierce and Mana Leak. -Mental Mistep is sided to stop any fast deck, like elves and Kuldotha. Anything that can either turn 1 something or drop a 1-drop spell, Mental Misstep works fine.

This deck landed me 3rd at my local FNM. Any thoughts on improvement would be great.

I don't like the Stoics...too costly and you HAVE to keep 3 mana open. Try Deprive it might set you behind one land but it is still a good card. Also, Have you thought about fetch lands to help thin the deck and get your mana base. Mash Flats and Scalding Tarns might help alot. 4 into the roils..I would just run 2 of them and run some kind of jace. those are ny opinions. Otherwise like it..
Often time I'll have enough Artifacts into play by the time I have to use Stoic giving it the Metalcraft so it costs the same as Deprive. Also, in my current playing environment, I usually have to sling several counterspells in one turn against the people I play locally, so Deprive is not really an option for me because it will set me back sever lands a lot of the time. And I thought about using fetches before and even tried them out for a while, but the way I play drags the game out long enough that the fetched end up becoming dead draws late game. Especially with the huge amount of draw power I can get late game. Having mana open is not really an issue for me. I do most of my plays on my opponents turn, when it matters for my deck. And Roil has always been my trust response to planeswalkers and pesky artifacts my opponent is using. Also, I used to run Jaces, but since New Phyrexia came out, I replaced them with Praetor's Grasp. mainly because I can use it to take my opponent's potential Jace when facing another control deck. I've had a habit to take my opponent's Counterspells to use them against them too, or to just keep them from using it on me.
LOL!!! THAT IS JANK! Stealing a Jace from a deck. AWESOME! remind me to keep an eye ouit for you if you go to a pro tourney somewhere in the south.
so why no Frost Titans?
I thought about using Frost Titans before. But mainly on the fact right now that I cannot get ahold of them at the moment.
umm..why no swamps in here? all it takes is a perfectly times tech edge or two and your screwed. 5 islands and 4 swamps and refuge for fetchland seems like it would be perfect for the deck. with more thinning you can draw key cards a little better. and yeah, frost over teh spinx seems really really good. Precusor golem might be really helpful in late and early game
I've actually tried all of that out before. Most of the key cards in my deck are blue. And I don't play against a lot of other control decks in my area. So most of the time, my dual-lands are safe. On top of that, usually, my the time someone tried to destroy my lands, I usually have enough. Sphinx is actually the reason I can manage with this deck the way it is. I draw massive amounts of cards and reload my deck with Elixir almost every turn or whenever needed. And he's a pretty buff flier.
maybe take out the ocului for trinket mage to search up your chalices and elixers, also a better body for blocking or attacking.
Oculus still makes a good early blocker as well as providing a slight draw power. And I dont really need search power with the amount of draw power I get with this deck.
That is just a tad bit too much land coming into play tapped if you ask me. I would think that your early game would suffer for that.. I would definitely replace the Jwar Isle Refuges with fetchlands (duh) or if you really really really don't want those in here then just good old fashioned swamps; you really don't need that 3 life and you have a ton of other dual lands for your blue/black needs. I used to use Refuge lands for a G/W deck I had and ALL they ever did was slow me down. I would also use Preordains and Sign in Bloods, but that's just my personal taste...I want to burn through my cards as quickly as possible. Thinning is winning! Other than that, this looks pretty fun to play. Once you start getting those big creatures out, it starts getting intense lol
yeah, you would honestly think the whole coming into play tapped would slow me down, but somehow it doesnt. not for me at least.
Personally, I kind of want to put at least 1 more Tec Edge in here.
