Deck Description

With the love for white in the new set I decided that it would be cool to make a G/W deck again for standard. I'm not much of a standard junkie, but there are a lot of things about standard that make the game a lot easier. With things like Cloudshift and Fiend Hunter you can permanently exile a creature. With beat sticks like Thrun and Sigarda in population things can get sticky. Plus the new land that makes creatures uncounterable.

Cloudshift + Restoration Angel = Get another creature.
Cloudshift + Fiend Hunter = Permanently exile one creature, and nab another.

I'm really liking the Avenger here. A 3/3 with Flash and regenerate? Thalia hates on control and it's a general 2/1 fs'er.

Human
Angel
Troll

Those are the types I choose with Cavern. Thalia because I only run 10 non creature spells.

Cards People have Suggested:

Grand Abolisher - More than likely I'll try to add it, but I'm not too fond of him honestly.
Mirran Crusader - YES! He's good, but my hate for him (his typing ruins the metagame) is still massive! >.<
Wolfir Silverheart - Unfortunately no. If I was going to add a Soulbond creature, it would be Silverblade Paladin. He not only adds Double strike but the addition of first strike is nice. Plus pairing him with a Thrun or a Titan is deadly.

Deck discussion for The Holy Avengers

love thalia and the fiend hunter, but I'm not exactly sure how cloudshift + fiend hunter gives permanent removal. Doesn't the first creature just come back after you cloudshift fiend hunter? It does allow you to get another creature though, so it's still good control imo. +1 nice deck!

thx for checking out my demon/devils deck.

No.

Play Fiend Hunter, it exiled a creature. In response to Fiend Hunter exiling the creature, remove fiend hunter from play. The stasis that the card would be returned is no longer active after Fiend Hunter has been cloudshifted. Fiend Hunter returns to play and the original creature has been exiled and you nab another creature.

have you thought about using some of the soulbond creatures in this deck?

The only one I was really considering was the double strike one. Other than that, no since none of the others are really worth wild for straight aggro.

I'd argue that Wolfir Silverheart could fit over Silverblade Paladin. Effective 12 power for 5, across 2 dudes.

As a 5 drop, I'm not sure. Silverblade offers an easy 10 damage for 3 mana where it also adds an ability that can make it so Geist dies (which normally is incredibly difficult to do).

And unfortunately my 5 drop is Sigarda, which is AMAZING.

Why Autumn's Veil in the SB? It seems to me that Grand Abolisher would fit better. It's another body, it doesn't have to wrestle Thalia, and the protection lasts longer.
Midnight duelist also feels weak compared to the rest of the deck. What did you have in mind for him? Elite Inquisitor is quite a bit better, and you have the birds in there for mana fixing. Considering your curve, you're not in need of more one drops, and he's a straight upgrade.
Otherwise it feels like there should be something with a lot more utility that could fit in.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on my GW humans deck, if you could take a look. Thanks!

Hmm, maybe. I've never been too fond of the Abolisher. He's great counter bait, so I'd probably take out the Autumn's Veil for him but what I like about the Veil is that it's instant speed and they won't expect it. It also, forces a counter or I'm free to play things for the turn.

I like it. I'm wondering, though, where Mirran Crusader is in this build? You're mainboarding Sword of War and Peace, and you're in G/W. I don't know about you, but I really like the idea of having someone swinging for 8 with protection from 80% of the color pie, and then them getting shocked for every card in their hand.

Damnit, I completely spaced on the Crusader. it might be because I hate the thing with a passion (ruins the metagame, imo) but sure, why the hell not. I might sideboard Thalia and add in 3 Mirran Crusaders. Thanks!

No problem. And yeah, Mirran Crusader is a serious beast, but I'm not sure that he ruins the metagame, especially now that he's basically dropped from the limelight.

A big thing I see with him is that he is an utter pain to get rid of, and because he's dropped out of the spotlight, it's moreso than he would be if he was in favor. A big part of that, as well, is that Red Deck Wins has basically been hated out of the format because it only really holds its own against mid-range or more control-oriented decks, whereas the overarching meta has an abundance of answers to Red's usual shenanigans. Unfortunately, you kind of need the burn to get rid of Mirran Crusader, unless you can counter him or exile him from White. It's one reason I built a Boros spread for him to thrive in.

The fact that it shuts out a deck style makes it ruin the meta in my eyes.

The swords and the crusaders ruin a lot of what the meta is. By shutting down an entire deck style, you take the fun out of what standard still is. That's why I don't like them.

That's understandable, though at the moment, I'd have to say that Sword of War and Peace ruins more of the meta than Mirran Crusader ever has.

Well I was speaking about those cards entirely. "Protection from" color specific things I try to stay away from unless it one color specific but that's just me.

I originally used this in a small modern build with Memory Blink. Too bad cloudshift doesn't have flashback.
