Peasant, Pauper, Noble, and now Aristocrat. Here is the Challenge: Make an Aristocrat deck.Rules:1) Decks must contain 60 cards.2) Decks can have up to 2 rares. Of the two rares, each one must be unique. In other words, a deck can't have two copies of the same rare.3) Mythic rares are not allowed. Ever! Yes, that means no planeswalkers.***EDIT: Has been pointed out to me, by s0rinmark0v, that there were 5 Planeswalkers that started out Rares, and were converted over to Mythical Rares:Aristocrat Planeswalkers (Only allowed Planeswalkers in Aristocrat Format)- Ajani Goldmane- Jace Beleren- Liliana Vess- Chandra Nalaar- Garruk Wildspeaker4) Decks can also have up to 12 uncommons. Like the rares, the number of copies you can include of any particular uncommon is restricted. In this case, no more than three copies of any one uncommon are allowed. 5) The rest of your deck is composed of commons, with the restriction that only 4 copies of up to three particular commons are allowed, with the rest of the deck's commons being limited to no more than 3 per unique common.6) Basic lands are used as normal, with no particular limit on copies.7) Sideboards are allowed and encouraged, and may include up to 1 rare and 3 uncommons, duplicating perfectly the rarity distribution of a typical booster pack. Additionally, none of the cards in the sideboard can be copies of the cards in the main deck.8) Sideboards are allowed to have 4 copies of up to two particular commons in the sideboard.Idea from Challenge came from:http://www.cardshark.com/Articles/Magic-the-Gathering/Brock-Siems/Advent-of-An-Aristocrat-%E2%80%9COfficial%E2%80%9D-Rules-for-a-New-Magic-Format/View-Article/4435?ref=facebook----------------------------------------------------------------Here is the link to the challenge page: http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/aristocrat-format-challenge/
Rare:(1) Anthousa, Setessan Hero(1) Dawnbringer CharioteersUncommon:(3) Blessings of Nature(3) Solidarity of Heros(3) Warrior's LessonCommon:(4) Seeds of Strength(4) Lagonna-Band Trailblazer(4) Travel Preparations(3) Fists of Ironwood(3) Prey Upon(3) Setessan Battle-Priest(3) Setessan Oathsworn(3) Staunch-Hearted Warrior--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I think I broke the budget barrier (under $10, including the $1 in the sideboard). Northy would be proud ... if I hadn't done this totally by accident. While making one badass heroic deck, I might add.Truthfully, I am completely floored at Magic players letting me build a deck this good for so cheap. Not that my wallet is complaining, but ... seriously, no one on mtg gatherer thought of using travel preparations for heroic shenanigans?! Come on people! This is almost as bad as a playset of Angelic Skirmishers costing under $2.
This deck has been viewed 1,846 times.
Setessan Oathsworn is possibly the most broken heroic creature at its rarity and doesn't seem to see as much play as it deserves. Seeds of Strength would be awesome in here, but let's not forget Rancor for trample and Prey Upon for removal. Bioshift also make for a fun combat trick.

Oh my ... that's two suggestions for bioshift. Tell you what. I will sideboard it ...... it's only 16 cents. Come on people. At least try to show that you recognize valuable cards.... ditto for the 14 cents prey upon.At least people recognize the awesome power of rancor. I know it's only been printed as uncommon once, but I'm going to stick with that rating. It just seems to be about the power level of an uncommon. Perhaps I would think it a common if it didn't return to your hand.
Seeds of Strength is indeed awesome. I will replace reap what is sown with it. Then, I can add in rancor in the uncommon slot (because I want to treat it that way). Then .. I'll ditch the valor made real for prey upon. You know ... scratch that rancor. Is there any similar instant, that costs less?Thank you for your help. Let me know if you need any help on decks of your own!Good luck, and happy deck building.
I keep forgetting Rancor's price. I own a set and it goes into almost every aggro deck I make without a second thought. Just did a quick search of gatherer. The 3 best options, imo, would be Unnatural Predation ($0,13e); Fists of Ironwood ($0,16e); or Horned Helm ($0,15e). Hope that helps.
Thanks! I will take a look see ..... to be honest, rancor is even in my budget beast tribal. Don't ask.
Fists of ironwood it is. Once again, thank you for your help!
Another card that would be a staple in my aggro decks, if I owned more than 1, is Mutagenic Growth (should get someone to add 3 to an order for me)
I know that card. It's a major PAIN IN THE ASS in infect decks. Just thought you had to know my position on those sneaky infect decks. I swear, I will have 4 Deflecting Blows and 4 Boros Fury-Shields just for those devious rapscallions of Magic players. I would sooner fight Jessie's infamous $15 deck.
Talking about infect, I want to make a 'non'-infect deck and, as a surprise, cast Tainted Strike :P As much as I hate infect, that is the one play I'm slightly ok with. It's the same as casting a double strike instant (in most cases) [ Double Cleave comes to mind].
Plus, just imagine the look on your opponent's face when you are at 5 life and survive a direct hit from a terra stomper ... by casting tainted strike on it. Then go on to kill him next turn. If that doesn't get a laugh, find some new people to play magic with. Unless you're Jessie. Then keep playing with that person because the odds you will find anyone else to play Magic with are pretty much zip.
Wait...is this Northy? Under 10 dollars?!What?! Northy, did you hack HokeyPokey and make a deck under his name?!
Yes. That's exactly what happened. Magical Hacker works for me now. Get used to it. :)I think this is similar to what happened in the angel tribal and my counter/counter decks ... it was just an inventive idea, I ran with it, and tried to stay away from trump cards. And ... magic players are foolish to be blind to the potential of cards like Setessan Oathsworn, Travel Preparations, and Seeds of Strength. Come on guys, what on earth do you THINK multiple target spells are good for. In all honesty ... they probably work better than most strive spells.OH, and the whole aristocrat format really helps keep costs down. So ... a clear win on that front.
