Deck Description

Legacy. I am so hip I use a tribe with only 4 cards in it from visions. No, seriously. I noticed that with errata and some of the newer cards this under loved tribe can be made into something quite amusing to play with in a casual environment.
http://magiccards.info/query?q=chimera&v=card&s=cname that has the errata on all 4 chimera.

Their power combined, I am captain hipster!

Deck discussion for Capitan Hipster

So... I take it that Gemhide Sliver is ran as a kind of counter to Slivers AND mana ramp?

I think you have a lot better cards than snakeform... Unless you play against a lot of slivers which I'm guessing you do.

Adaptive Automation would be a fun card in here as well.

Snakform is mostly there for spot removal and card draw. Gemhide is mana smoothing and mana ramp which is important to a three color deck. Adaptive Automaton is kind of redundant. The fact that changelings come with powers already there makes them ripe for tossing the chimera powers and counters onto.

Looks like a fun deck to play, but your mana curve is too high to run only 20 land.

Gem hide does wonders for fixing that. each changeling becomes a mana source.

Fun! I'd take out the MIrror Entities since the Chimerae tend to give you a small number of powerful creatures (whereas Mirror Entity wants the opposite). Snake Form is also not very good in this deck.

To replace them, I'd suggest some black removal and Vines of Vastwood (to prevent your opponent from killing a creature with a bunch of Chimera parts welded onto it).

Ahaha, you should definitely put in Elephant Graveyard.

Funny thing is that the mirror entity buffs them all on top of the counters. you could get +6/+6 worth of counters then spend 6 mana to make the base power and toughness 6 each. then add the counters and its 12/12

And swarmyard does the same thing but is cheaper to get ahold of. I'll ponder adding it thanks!

You're right about the interaction with Mirror Entity, but I'm still not convinced it's that useful when you have so few lands (tapping gemhides and changelings for mirror mana seems counterproductive when the point is to buff those creatures). And considering that it's your only white spell, cutting down to two colours seems way more useful.

What about something like -4 Mirror Entity, -6 Plains, -4 Snakeform, +4 Vines of Vastwood, +2 Swarmyard, +3 Forest, +2 Swamp, +2 Go for the Throat, +1 Doom Blade?

Hmmm. The biggest reason for snake form is card draw. I was also thinking of tossing in startlit sanctum. http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=40542 its a great counter to creature removal and things that nerf creatures or take control of them. Maybe use rend flesh if necessary since its safe from redirects which have gotten a bit more popular lately. Though spirit tribal seems to be on the rise again.

I admit I really like the Starlit Sanctum idea, you might have to make the manabase a bit fancier for it though. And you're right, it's probably not the best time to put in Rend Flesh.

was thinking dropping the mirror entity and adding in starlit sanctums and Cauldron of Souls. what do you think? It allows chimera to trigger twice once you get it out.

The cauldron is good but high mana cost. Cauldron Haze seems decent too, but I'm not really sure. Seems like the effect could be really good (you have 3 chimerae and your chameleon is about to die) or really bad (you have two gemhides, a changeling with a bunch of machine parts, and your opponent is playing a board wipe). I guess playtest with them if you already own them.

Why not a snake instead of snakeform? Ohran Viper seems ridiculous and you can turn it into some sort of horrifying vigilance trample card draw machine.

Realized as I was falling asleep that Orhan Viper isn't a chimera and had to get up to post this. >_>

krosan tusker is probably the best card draw. it cycles and fetches a land to your hand at the same time.

Been thinking. Maybe a good ol skeleton shard could work better. Its slower but it allows the chimera to be reused even after a board wipe.

maybe also drop snake form. but i'd like something decent to draw a card with.
