Maybe in the sideboard, I like the potential for 6 life from timely especially with all the rdw nonsense
Also, keep in mind that soldier tokens are not human. An unflipped mayor only boosts the Blade Splicer.
You make a good point, however the mayor plays out nice with garruk, and makes tokens when flipped(if I use Liliana to discard/remove creatures he gives a fair board advantage for a 2 drop)
