Deck Description

This deck is part of my Revised series. A series built around rebuilding decks I either once had or currently have in order to make them stronger. This deck falls qualifies for the Planeswalker series. The Planeswalker series was established to create fun decks around each of the Planeswalkers. This modern Grixis deck focuses on the Planeswalker Nicol Bolas. The deck uses multiple mechanics to quickly overwhelm the opposition.

How to Play

This deck overwhelms the opponent with a powerful zombie army backed by god-like Planeswalkers. The deck has four main mechanics that help you seize victory: Drawing, Proliferate, Zombie/Amass, and Planeswalkers. In total there are twelve cards that allow you to draw cards from your deck in order to hasten your plan for victory. Contentious Plan, Cryptbreaker, Nicol Bolas all allow you to draw an extra card. Many of your cards run counters on them and the ability add more of them with Proliferate is essential in this deck. Flux Channeler, Contentious Plan, and Karn's Bastion make up the ten cards that allow you to ramp up the amount of counters on your permanents. While the previously listed mechanics allow you to better your position in the game, none of them will keep you alive against an aggressive foe; nor will they allow you to crush other opponents that relay on long term strategies. The Zombie/Amass mechanics allow you to control the battlefield with a zombie army. Their are eleven creatures with the zombie typing in this deck. Grim Initiate, Gleaming Overseer, and Cryptbreaker are all powerful cards that bolster your militia. Cryptbreaker not only is a low cost creature, but it can help you draw cards and create additional zombie tokens. The second half of this mechanic is the ability Amass. This ability gives your a Zombie army token that gets stronger whenever you activate Amass while it's on the battlefield. Grim Initiate, Gleaming Overseer, and Dreadhorde Invasion allow your to either generate an Army token or power up an existing token. Dreadhorde Invasion makes this ability happen every turn and if your Army is strong enough gives the token Lifelink, an ability that can potentially extend the game and allow you to net some serious health back. Gleaming Overseer is the perfect colonel for your zombie tokens. This cards gives your Army, and the tokens generated by Cryptbreaker, the abilities Menace and Hexproof. Your tokens will be protected against your opponents spells that target creatures and they will only be able to be blocked by two or more creatures, a great way to destroy your opponent's budding resistance. We finally move on to the generals of your army, the final mechanic, the Planeswalkers. These powerful beings help to fuel your plot to destroy your opponent. Both Liliana and Tezzeret perform almost the same role in this deck. Each of their plus abilities allows you to increase the size of your mana pool, thus making your deck faster. Their first minus abilities are used for their utility factor, getting rid of legendary creatures that threaten the master plan of your main general Nicol Bolas. Their final abilities are seldom activated and instead the Planeswalkers are usually sacrifice to The Elderspell, a deadly form of magic that kills Planeswalkers in exchange for power. The Elderspell is used to power the Planeswalker Nicol Bolas. This omnipotent dragon allows you to draw cards with his first ability and remove troublesome creatures/Planeswalkers with his second. However, what his real power, and the reason for the use of The Elderspell, comes from his ultimate ability. This ability gives you the power to end the game for players without a legendary creature or Planeswalker, something that with the help of your other Planeswalkers, your Zombies, and the Elderspell is highly unlikely to occur. Overall, this deck provides you with a powerful army, as well as access to a lethal combo that leaves your opponents begging for mercy.

Deck discussion for Revised Nicol Bolas Deck

Heads up, 4 dark rituals, a swamp, morgue toad, and nicol bolas, gives you a turn one bolas. Not reliable, but still cool.

While this deck has changed a lot since I first put it up (it was my first deck on this site!) I still like this little combo, unreliable as it may be.
