My 9-year-old son has been watching my 12-year-old and I play MtG lately, and today asked if he could have his own deck, so he can play too. So I grabbed my cards and threw this together for him. The idea was to use simple creatures with simple mechanics to help him feel confident and successful in his game. Lots of life-gaining, lots of fun creatures and tokens to play. Absolutely no direct damage at all, but he's aggressive about straight up attacking with his critters, so I think this'll be a good one for him. Lots of ways to beef up his forces and bring the pain to his brother.
As of this writing, it's completely untested. If it works like I hope, he'll be able to get his Risen Sanctuary and some other beefy creatures out on the battlefield long before his opponent's ready for it.UPDATE: Played a few times with it now, and it seems to work pretty smoothly. My son got a great introduction to the game with a fun-to-play deck, and even though he still needs some practice with it, he's excited about the game, and he likes his deck. Now when we're checking out at Walmart and he spots some boosters, he begs me to buy him one...hmmm, maybe this wasn't such a great idea....

Awesome. My son is 2, but I hope to teach him when he becomes older. I would like this deck 1,000 times if I could.

Thanks! Just tried it out myself against my 12-year-old. The life-gains worked wonderfully (I got up to 37 life by turn 6 or 7). He was able to get his Scourge of Valkas out the turn after I got Risen Sanctuary out, and it was a race to see who could crush the other with brute force. The second time he pumped his Scourge to 9/4, I got nervous. I won, with 8 life remaining. One more turn and I'd have been dead. It was a great match! Obviously my 9-year-old won't be playing the deck as well as I did, but he'll certainly be able to give his brother a good game.
