Deck discussion for X-Mas with Xenagod (EDH)

I would say to look up Shivan Wurm, since you are using lots of wcip creatures so that you can get the effects to happen over and over again. Also out of 45 creatures 9 of them are elves, so that means 20% of the creatures are elves. The reason I give you that figure is because I think the Skyshroud Poacher might not be absolutely necessary, it might go better in a themed edh elf deck. I have been wrong in the past so take that word of advise with a grain of salt, but also take it into consideration because the slot it takes up could be filled with something else that does more for you. Okay 2 more creatures then I am done and they are; Thragtusk and Craterhoof Behemoth. Just since you are using the closet that makes both of these creatures crazy good, the behemoth might actually be better in a token deck but since you are using Asceticism perhaps that will allow you to keep more of your creatures around so that you can get a few uses out of the behemoth. I know I said I would be done but I lied, you are playing with 18 noncreature spells if I was playing this deck I would try to find a way to get that number way down. With your general on the field if you could play all of those spells without being dead, he would deal you only 108 damage. I know I am going backwards with this comment right now but my advise would be to look for a way to return him to your hand or outright slay him if you are getting close to the dead zone and really need to play a spell. Wow that was a lot of information, I have never left such a detailed comment but I think it's because I think the deck is solid and I hope it works out well for ya.

9 out of 45 is 20%. Check your math.

It makes me happy to see that my comments get looked at. Thank you for the correction gh, good old gh, I knew I could count on you to do good math. Wanna know why? Cause math is power and it's fun.

Ugh, i wrote a long response but it some how got deleted. Anyways, i've made some adjustments to the deck, hopefully for the better. I really like the idea of shivan wurm, and i've gone on to add horned kavu as another "blink", "etb" effect. Thragtusk and craterhoof were in the original version of the deck, but i switched them out. Just switched in thragtusk- i just like this card way too much to keep it out- but i'm not crazy about craterhoof in a non-token build (plus i'm not crazy about his casting cost). Skyshroud was only marginal so i cut it, even if i do like the idea of reusable creature tutoring. Many of the non-creature spells i'm not too keen about cutting, especially the low cmc artifacts which help significantly to accelerate into and protect ruric. Some enchantments could be cut, but a few are kind of nicely thematic with the whole anti-control purpose of this deck. I'm still testing this deck on cockatrice, and haven't bought a single card for it yet, so more improvement shall follow. Thanks for the long comment, hope this is a long enough response.

Sure it is, and I agree with you the mana rocks are necessary for the deck due to the high cmc of the creatures. It's good that you haven't spent any cash on the deck yet, that means you can still be flexible on your choices until you have made final decisions on specific cards. I don't really know what else to say except good luck.

This is my new favorite EDH deck. I LOVE thornling and thrun (but i dont have any :( ) but I do have vexing devil :) , and I think that might go well into this deck.

possibly, however vexing devil kind of loses its value in the late game as a potential beater, since most people will let him resolve and will already have sufficient blockers on the field. Also, vexing devil isn't as impressive because of the 40 life total in commander, it's just about half effective and many decks run some sort of life gain.

Ah. I did not know that about the life total in commander.

It's good that you checked this deck out and were better at math than I am gh, due to your earlier comment it looks like you might start playing edh and you might use a deck that is built similar to this one.

One of my main decks is pretty much a 60 card EDH, so I'll consider making it into a EDH deck. That would be fun.

about 1/3 of your deck is non-creature spells... in a Ruric Thar deck? Are you getting smashed in the face all the time or never actually cast Ruric? :)

after playing this deck for the last few months, i've never much cared about occasionally taking damage from Ruric Thar, especially if it means casting more powerful cards. Originally, I had the idea of making the deck entirely creature based + primal surge. Then, I added a small artifact suite to protect Ruric, notably basilisk collar to negate ruric's effect and give some nice life gain and whispersilk cloak to negate the "attacks every turn" clause. After that, i felt that some utility cards like garruk and domri would help considerably with card draw, which was seriously lacking at the time, and that cards like tooth and nail and boundless realms were too good to ignore (think combos like crater hoof behemoth and avenger of zendikar, or vigor and gruul rage beast, or rampaging baloths into Bndsrlms). Of course, at this point i realized that i might as well just abandon the all creature theme and just play what works. Really, runic isn't the central focus/win con of the deck... whether or not you play ruric depends entirely on what you draw (whispersilk, lightning greaves, basilisk collar, and gratuitous violence usually convince me to play and try to win with ruric).
