wandering one drops

by Kazzong on 17 May 2014

Main Deck (1 card)

Creatures (1)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

"Where oh where do these wandering ones wander? ". I wondered as I looked and pondered on the strange little beings as they walked by.
Then it hit me... They are lonely!!!! They wanted more 1 drops to keep them company! So here is a list of decks that will help them feel not so sad, for in these decks there are only 1 drops to be had.

Feel free to add your own 1 drop decks here, and I will add them to the list. :)
Vote for your favorite in the comments. :)

Edit
rules clarification:
spells with an X mana cost don't count unless they can be played for 1 mana and have an effect. (Example: Green sun zenith targeting dryad arbor)
0 mana cards are free game, as are cards with phyrexian mana, but must still be considered as part of the CMC.

thanks for everyone who posted decks here. It is a lot of fun to look at all the really neat ideas that people have. :)

Do I have your permission (as I am assuming this is your thing) to make a 1 cmc deck for my own?

meh. that's fine. I don't think that we have to limit ourselves to 1 deck per guild. :) if multiple people want to design a deck for a particular guild... more power to them.

personally I am really thinking about doing an Azorius deck, even though Azorius is the newest addition to the list. (and I was thinking about it before this one was posted.)

A question, does x spells count?

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 00:20

well... it depends. if you have something like Green sun and dryad arbor, then I think it is fine, but something like gridlock then no, I think that it shouldn't count. but exceptions can be made.

Interesting. Does the deck have to have a major theme? I am not caught up with Azorius or Golgari.

With every card costing one mana...it would take major skills to not top deck immediately, right? Maybe i am wrong on that. A lot of one card drops that could be pumped up using mana? And mana ramp would be non-existent. And, been really busy of late (not looked at any of the decks), but i would also assume people would be running less than 20 lands in the deck.

And you know the next challenge has to be to try and make a winning deck with no mana cost. Right? Like kobolds, memnite, phyrexian walker, chromes, lotus', shield sphere.

Or the other extreme...try to make a winning deck with heavy costing mana...like a deck with nothing but 4 or 5 mana cards. Almost would be impossible considering you could not play a single card until turn 4 or 5.

Finally...just thinking about it for a few minutes...seems like a Red burn deck would be one of the better 1 mana decks. Vexing Devil. Spark Elemental. Lightning Bolt. Chain Lightning. Shock. Assault. Pyrite Spellbomb. Brute Force.Crown of Flames. Firebolt. Grim Lavamancer would be awesome. Lava Spike. Overmaster. Reckless charge. Reckless abandon. Seal of fire. Tarfire.
Plus...all the one drop Goblins.

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 00:11

yeah, that is interesting... Perhaps that is what makes sealed deck formats so much fun? you have to make do with pretty much whatever you have. :)

and for this list, no you don't have to have any particular theme. it can be whatever you want other than the most mana heavy card can only be 1 mana.

0

What about x spells. Like Banefire. It is considered a one mana card.

http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&cmc=+=[1]&rating=+%3E[4]&color=+[R]

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 00:32

Someone asked that already. My personal criteria is that if it can be played for only 1 mana and has an actual effect, then it can count, but mot X cost spells have to have at least 1 as X to be useful. Example: Green sun zenith can target 0 mana cards by paying only 1 mana and nothing for X, and therefor can count. but cards like gridlock, fireball or banefire need at least 2 mana to have any effect. and I think based on that criteria, they wouldn't count. but as I said above... exceptions can be made.

0
Posted 18 May 2014 at 00:51

I asked the x spell question several times...sorry. As i said, been uber busy lately.

I am being the devil's advocate. I totally agree with you Kazzong. If an x spell cost more than 1 mana...then it is not a 1 mana spell...but TECHNICALLY (lol) Banefire is considered a one mana card. I don't think it should be...and i guess cards like Green sun zenith are why Mtg considers Banefire a one mana card.

It is confusing :) But fun!

Regardless, establishing the rules set in place, i would like to make a red one.

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 00:59

Another for the list, I'm also curious for what rules are being set regarding x mana spells, I swapped out some spells just in case.

Anyway a R/W burn and buff deck to add if you like it enough.

P.S. fun deck building concept you set up.

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 00:51

No x spells. It makes it more challenging I will give Kazzong credit for that.

And will also agree that this is a fun concept. And a great idea to play against a local friend! 1 mana deck against another 1 mana deck.

I know you were mildly interested, Kazzong, in the Creature Challenge Tourney I had planned.

Well, Merfolk beat Beast in the first match. Beast came in fast and hard...but late game counterspells/disruption gave Merfolk the victory.

Next is Zombies vs Humans. Not sure if I will get it done tonight. Playing Both sides...using paper takes forever. First game was around 2 hours long.

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 03:47

dang. looks like merfolk is off to a good start then. :)

0
Posted 18 May 2014 at 03:49

Damn 25 dollar Misdirection card gave them the win. Beast played Rancor and Merfolk used Misdirection to change the target of Rancor to the Merfolk's True-Name Nemesis.

I knew money was going to be a factor in the Tournament. It is what it is.

With that said, I think my 20 dollar Cephalid Constable deck could beat any of the Creature Challenge Decks.

1

You gotta do 2 out of 3 to make it even.

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 03:51

Going to make them all face each other 1 time. It would be more fair, I will agree with you abcdefu96...but it would take weeks and weeks.

There are 12 decks...and for each of those 12 decks to face each other 3 times...yeah...weeks and weeks.

Still might take weeks just facing every creature against the other 11 creatures. Humans vs Zombies are next.

They are under my decks, all titled Creature Challenge.

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 03:54

I've seen a few of them. I'm not surprised that beasts lost to merfolk truthfully. How are you simulating?

1
Posted 18 May 2014 at 03:57

What I am doing is majorly flawed. Super flawed. But trying to be fair. I use the Draw Sample feature on here.

I make sure I have at least 2 lands on the opening hand. I open two windows on the computer.
Example. 1 screen is Zombie, draw sample hand.
2nd screen is Human, draw sample hand.
Each of 2 lands in the opening hand.

I get paper, write down the opening hands. And I go from one window screen tab to the next.
Drawing what the Draw Sample Hand shows I would draw.

What is uber flawed is I am playing both sides...but i am trying to be fair and play as I would play IF I DID NOT KNOW the other person's hand. It is especially tricky for Counterspell decks like the Merfolk.

And it is tedious as hell. Like I wrote before, somewhere. 1 game is like 2 hours long. I write out the turns and draw out, at the end of each turn, a picture of what creatures/lands I have on the board. As well as write down what I have in my hand. I have to do that for both decks.

It is interesting, though. Wife is recovering from surgery today. So I have loads of time on my hand.
Now, Humans and Zombies, who do you think have it?

1

What is Cockatrice?

By the way, Humans just got their asses handed to them.

End of turn 8. Zombies had 4 Gravecrawlers out. 2 Gray Merchants. 2 Death Barons. 1 Blood Scrivener. All 3/3 or higher.

Humans with their mother of runes, devout witness, martyr of sand couldn't stand up the graveyard regeneration.

Zombies had 20 life at the end of the game. No contest.

P.s. it's not racist because it's true. Koreans own the shit out of the interwebs.

If he finds something I'll share it with you guys.

Just wanted to make people aware of Surge Node. It's an artifact that can give other artifacts charge counters and may make it feasible to play artifacts that would normally require you to pay X for them to come in with charge counters. It's probably not worthwhile, but it's there if you really want to try it.

Okay. Will have the results in for the next game, most likely tomorrow, not sure I will be finished by tonight.

So...creatures left that have not fought:
Faeries, Goblins, Myrs, Thopters, Vampires, Elf, Dragon, and Angel.

Who should battle each other next?

I have a few questions about the Myr deck mechanic...specifically with Myrsmith and Spellbombs interactions...that i need answered...before I can play Myr vs Thopter. But I will play them against each other.

So far I have Merfolk, Dragons, and Zombies having won their first matches.
And have Beast, Vampires, and Humans losing their first matches.

Have learned a little bit about what works and doesn't work. What may need changing or mending with the losing teams.

ok, shoot. I know a bit about myrs, so what are your questions?

0
Posted 18 May 2014 at 17:24

With Beast...they have a lot of pure speed to begin with...but seem to fizzle out mid game.
Vampires seem to need more mana ramp to get out Sanguine Bond/Blood Artist.
Humans...lifegain isn't working out as planned...thinking more lifegain spells vs lifegain creatures. Or less 1 drop cards.

Thoughts on extra costs like Buyback or Flashback or things of that nature? Activated abilities that cost more than one mana? I've been avoiding them so far but they are technically outside the 1 CMC rule.

0
Posted 18 May 2014 at 18:57

activated abilities are fine, as long as the CMC of the card is 1 or less. buyback or flashback... hmm... not sure. perhaps we can have a vote to see what people think.

0
Posted 18 May 2014 at 19:20

Neither one affect the cmc..... I vote for allowing them.

0
Posted 18 May 2014 at 19:23

Here is a ruling via http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/ : "Casting a spell using flashback doesn't change the mana cost (or converted mana cost) of the spell. You just pay the flashback cost instead" and "Buyback costs don't count toward a spell's mana cost or converted mana cost, whether they're paid or not." So it definitely doesn't effect the CMC of the spell in these two cases, though it still feels somewhat out of the scope of these decks to me.

0

yeah, that is kinda how I feel about it too.

0
Posted 18 May 2014 at 19:30

what about kicker costs or bestow?

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 01:54

I think that kickers are ok, as long as the card can be played normally and still have an effect. bestow... I would say no because it is almost like playing 2 separate cards.

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 02:02

I think if kicker costs are in flashback/buyback should be too. If you kick a creature that cost R with and extra 1R and it comes out a 3/3 or something. It's more like playing a creature that's 1RR and is a 3/3. There's not much difference...

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 02:17

I think id agree on flashback but not buyback since u have to add the buyback cost when u originally play it

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 02:21

it doesn't change a thing actually. the CMC isn't changed with the kicker-multikicker, and are optional to actually cast. but for things like bestow flashback and buyback, it isn't optional. Unless it doesn't cost any mana to use the optional casting cost.

I don't know. Personally I think that any rules discrepancies there should be a community vote.

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 02:24

Well they're all optional costs, my thoughts are if it only costs one mana to cast it then it's a one drop. If you want to kick, buyback or play flashback it doesn't change the cmc of the card. I do however think x cards are kind of cheating unless you can use it with just one mana. Also bestow costs don't change the cmc either.

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 02:33

Ok, they don't change the CM, but if you want to play a card for flashback, then the flashback should only be 1 mana. Buyback shouldn't be extra mana. Kickers... I don't know. E already have decks with those in them. Like I said, I think a bite on the rulings would be good, to see if they are allowed. Or outside you should just not be allowed to play then for the alternate cost etc...

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 02:58

Well I put Bump in the night in the sb of my b/w one drop I just made, but I don't intend on ever using the flashback ability? Though I agree with the buyback and flashback, they don't really fall into place with what you're going for here. At the same time, it's the same for kicker costs. Yeah they're optional, but so are buyback/flashback costs? SO yeah definitely a bit tricky to put a final say on the matter. In my opinion, if one isn't allowed, then the others shouldn't be allowed either since it all technically falls into the same situation.

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 10:25

My two cents on the what should or shouldn't be allowed: The CMC of a card must be no greater than 1 and whenever a spell is cast the cumulative mana cost may not be greater than 1 unless an opponent increases the mana cost.

Hopefully that would make it clear and robust enough to cover flashback, buyback, x mana spells and cards that add increase casting cost, probably making them a no go, thoughts?

Challenge to you. Was just looking through old expansions...trying to find "pretty" cards for my wife. I stumbled upon Mirror Entity. Wow, what a great card with huge potential! It could blend in with "Tribal" (I hate that term) decks. I asked myself if it even seems like it should be a White card...regardless, what potential! Here is my challenge to you, make a mock deck Containing 4 copies of Mirror Entity.

Good luck, anybody that considers the challenge.

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 20:42

What do you want it to do? And are you asking for it to fall Ito the 1 mana rules?

0
Posted 19 May 2014 at 21:19

Nope. Because it is 3 mana, I think. I just got overexcited because I had never seen the card before...but as someone pointed out on another deck, it would probably just be very boring. Some sort of 1) play weenies 2) pump up with trample or flying 3)scoop up board.

Maybe it could be used with changeling deck. If there are changeling decks. I may look into making a deck like that, myself. Seems like you would almost want to run 1 or 2 different creatures with changeling in a Tribal deck. Which seems super cheesy and lame. Or maybe best way to play them would be to use, like Goblin Ringleader/Blades of Velis Vel/ or Tribal Instants. Going off on a rant, sorry.

At first, I was just throwing out the idea to anyone, really...to come up with any kind of deck with Mirror Entity...but on second thought...i feel like a douche...because this is your deck. Not mine. Sorry. Got over zealous.

But...i have thought since...it might could work in my Myr deck in Creature Challenge Tourney...maybe...since I took out Genesis Chamber. I splashed with Myrs anyway.

Mirror entity? Boring? Not at all. Avg secondly, I am totally fine with you posting stuff here. It is more of an impromptu forum anyways. I an sure that someone here will take yo your challenge. :). I ab fishing my lunch break but can attempt it after I get off of work if nobody else does it. :)

I don't know. but I looked at the deck and asked a question but here never answered. he wanted the deck on the list but the only thing for the deck was that it had two multicolored cards from each guild. I would have been happy to put it on the list but I couldn't tell what the deck was designed to do.

Yes it is, he came up with a really good idea.

You can do it too, Pwap, try to come up with an entire deck with only cards that cost 1 mana to play. :)

well, it is supposed to be more of an impromptu hot page for a specific format of decks. :) and you are welcome to post a deck here if you want. it just has to be in the 1 mana format. :) So no cards above 1 CMC. 0 mana cards are fine though. :)

And thank you Jessie, but it wasn't all my idea. KnightoftheHokeypokey had the same concept and originally had the deck links posted on one of his decks. I figured that out would be better to have it not clutter up his comments section and made a separate "deck"for it. So I really didn't do much more than facilitate the creativity of the community. :)

What kind of picked me though is how it has so few views for the amount of comments it has. I do have 1 other deck with almost as many comments, but WAY more views. So... Yeah. Not sure why the funky views to comments ratio.

Okay guys. Question: trying to help another person on this site, with their deck.

Last year I made a deck with Burning Inquiry and Liliana's Caress. It also had other cards like terminate and Hellfire Mongrel.

I have Liliana's Caress on the board, and cast Burning Inquiry.

I say (as does the guy I am trying to help on this site) that Burning Inquiry does 6 damage to my opponent. But my friends, that i played against, said they only lose 2 life.

This is why: "Whenever an opponent discards a card, that player loses 2 life."

My friends said, and i am trying to state to the new guy I am trying to give advice to, on this site, that for Burning Inquiry to do 6 damage to the opponent via Liliana's Caress to do 6 damage, it needs to read:

"Whenever an opponent discards a card, that player loses 2 life FOR EACH CARD DISCARDED."

Another example, I have Liliana's Caress in play. I play Mind Twist to make my opponent discard 4 cards. My friends say they only lose 2 damage via Liliana's Caress. I said they discarded 4 cards, so that is 8 damage.

Please help!!!
Which is right?
Liliana's Caress + Burning Inquiry equals how many damage?

0

Well first off there is no damage dealt. Just life lost. Which is important because damage prevention cards can't stop it. :). Secondly it is 2 life per card. So you would lose 6 life to burning inquiry. Because it is 2 life times 3 cards. :)
Oh yeah. It stacks of you have more than 1 caress out too. * makes evil grin.*

I love that Combo, in fact I have a deck based around it. It also have underworld dreams and psychosis crawler in it so when they draw they lost life as well. :). Super fun concept.

What about my friend's comment that Liliana's Caress reads:
"Whenever an opponent discards a card, that player loses 2 life."

I just read the rules, and you are right, Kazzong.

But shouldn't the card read:
"Whenever an opponent discards a card, that player loses 2 life for each card discarded."

0

It doesn't have to. Because "a card" implies that one single card has been discarded. Now if it said "when a player discards cards" that would be different.

Another question, Kazzong. Is there a card that is opposite of The Rack. Black Vise. Rackling?

Or some sort of card like, "Deal 2 damage (or 1, or 3) to your opponent for each card in his hand."

Is there anything like that?

Thanks jerzeydevyl and Gothy. Not exactly the colors I am looking for.

I ended up with this deck:

http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/douchebag-black-lockdown/

But...i was trying to make my opponent have to keep 7 cards in his hand (he can't play anything)...and then punish him for not being able to get rid of the cards in his hands.

Almost opposite of Black Vise.

Any help is appreciated.
