I figured that my regular defender deck is almost all commons anyways... Why not go full pauper?
Using lead the stampede to dig through your deck, hoping to hit vent sentinel with lots of creatures out. And ramp into kaervek's torch.Dangerous wager when you have no hand.

I'd dump the Grull Guildgates in favor of Rugged Highlands. You get a little life that way on top of the tapped land. Other than that, it looks fun.

The guildgate is in there for gatecreeper vine.
Oh, duh, how did I miss that?? Carry on!
yeah, I need as much ramp as I can get, and while the life would be nice... allowing gatecreeper to hit as many lands as possible is more useful I think. particularly if I need mana fixing.
Well, you can see that they're for Gatecreeper Vine. I would question the inclusion of Terramorphic Expanse over Rugged Highlands, though, considering you wouldn't mind hitting 4 or 5 lands in a deck like this. The only complaints I would have is questionable removal , which isn't even bad per se, but definitely review your sideboard. There are tons of options and hate cards you could be bringing into the board, like Ancient Grudge, Hull Breach, Nacatl Outlander or Yavimaya Barbarian are all decent hate cards against certain decks. In a main deck, you could consider Tinder Wall or Wall of Tanglecord. I mean, it all depends what you think you'll go up against, but the sideboard seems confused to me. It all depends on the decks you imagine you'll face, but just at face-value, I'd say either add more Defenders into the board to make the deck more linear, or add hate cards that can deal with specific decks. One-Eyed Scarecrow can stop things like Spirit tokens, Cloud of Faeries, and slow down Spire Golem.
yeah, I haven't actually done anything with the sideboard yet. certainly needs to be improved. I don't normally post a sideboard, because if someone wants to build my decks, they usually have a different meta, and should build a sideboard for that.but I agree that I do need to add some decent hate cards here. I could probably put gatecreeper vine in the sideboard, and mainboard some hate instead.also... I can guarantee this deck will have no issues casting Scour from existence.
Reverant silence is a good sideboard card against pauper auras. Since dealing with hexproof creatures is hard.
Hmm... Good call.
come look a my colorless somewhat pauper deck
sorry i know im advertising but i do like the deck
Well... Here's the deal. Give some genuine feedback on a few decks. Build a reputation with other members of the vault. Then ask for help or likes. Now... Personally I don't mind if you ask for people to look at your decks on in my comment sections, but as a rule of thumb... At least make a few comments about the deck first.
ok srry. about hat
hat -------- that
Lol. No worries. You seem to be new. Love people coming to the vault. Also, I would be happy to look at your deck.
yes Im new in fact im new to the game its self.
........well Kinda
I have a question.
OK. What is your question?
um how do i make a good deck design?
Now that is an excellent question. :)There are many ways to build a good deck.
ohwell NVM
well, hang on. it really depends on what kind of deck you want to build, and what you like to play.I would say to pick a color or two to start with. and look for a card of that color that you think is really fun.for example:you might like green. and you really like Aura Gnarlid. 2/2 for 2G, which can only be blocked by creatures who are at least as big as it. and it gets bigger for every aura card on the battlefield. so in that case you would try to find lots of aura cards to pump your creatures to be really big, and protect them.if you like white, you might look at a card like... Elesh Norn, who pumps all your creatures, and makes your opponents smaller. and find lots of ways to put out small creatures easily. like tokens perhaps.
if you like blue, you might like counter cards and control decks, that lets you prevent your opponent from playing spells, and slowing them down until you can put out a huge expensive card like... pearl lake ancient, or the new Elder Dinosaur... who's name escapes me at the moment.
THANK im so going to try to use something like that.
if you would like some examples, I have a series of decks that I and my brother made to show new people kind of the core of what each color does in a simple, easy to understand way. If you would like to see them I can post a link to each of them either here or on your colorless deck. only if you want of course.
sure i would
colorless please
sure. I will post the links there. :)
oh i made a deck inspired by you.
I love this. Dirt cheap and looks fun to play. Definitely going to put this together and add to my library. I would enjoy seeing the non-pauper version, too. ...and dang I'm hoping for a reprint of Kaerveks Torch, just to make it modern legal.
well, if you are interested I actually have two other versions of this, a modern version:www.mtgvault.com/kazzong/decks/modern-legal-defender-deck/and a vintage and legacy legal casual version:http://www.mtgvault.com/kazzong/decks/defender-deck/(happens to be the most popular defender deck on the vault.)
Awesome, thank you. I don't know why I never think of Banefire, since it is like the modern Torch and perfect in this case. Pretty sure I have a playset of it, too. I don't play much burn. I also never paid much attention to Defenders, and had never considered how well they can work together like this.
the deck plays out like a slightly slower elves, with a burn finisher.throwing out a genesis wave for 10+ on turn 4 feels really good.
kazzong can you help me with my command deck?
I love this deck...but is there a way to get damage similar to Vent Sentinel without using Vent Sentinel? I'm working on a Pauper defender Vdeck myself and would love a card like Vent Sentinel, but I'm keeping it white or green. I've scoured Scryfall looking for a reasonable facsimile, but am having no luck.
sadly there are no cards similar to vent sentinel. Doorkeeper is about as close as you get I think, with a mill deck, but that is blue so... yeah.I would love for there to be another, but it just doesn't exist.
+1What about adding Mobilize/ Vitalize to untap all your creatures and use them again? Two other card, often included in pauper defender decks would be [[Ulamog's Crusher]] and Ulvenwald Captive.
