Deck Description

This is possibly part of the 1 mana series. :)

it is all mill, all the time. :)

How to Play

best outcome, is to be able to put out as many hedron crabs as you can as fast as you can, and then mill like crazy with instants and sorceries.

comments and suggestions would be helpful. I think that I might want to replace a few cards in here, but I am not sure what to swap out for them.

weak cards:
telepathy
cathartic adept
evanescent intellect

any thoughts on what I could swap for these would be great. :)

Deck discussion for Dimir 1 mana deck

needs card draw to be more effective. the deck seemed interesting, so I browsed the card list. dream ponder seems like a really good fit, for example.

Dream ponder? Do you mean dream twist and ponder?

aladeus, what is the CMC, color, and effect of dream ponder?

because my guess is that you are thinking of Ponder, which WAS in Lorwyn, and would go well in here. I just need to find a place for it with the mill. :(

I think you cleared out dimir's entire cabinet of one drops. Force spike is a worthy mention, and maybe can replace dream twist. Evanescent Intellect is good - it's like power of fire for blue - and it fits nicely on anyone but cathartic adept.

Where's the Jace's Phantasm? It can replace cathartic adapt.

Don't underestimate the power of telepathy. With it, you can see your opponent's dirty tricks and easily avoid them.

Yeah, I probably did... At least for good discard a and mill. LOL. :)

Jace's phantasm is good, and COMPLIMENTS mill very well, but it isn't actually a mill or discard card, and this deck series being what it is, I had to drop it because I can't be as unfocused in what roles my cards fill. But I must admit that I shed a tear when I clicked that garbage bin button and dumped Jace's phantasm from the deck.

Think of it this way ... he's on his way to jace's OP decks ... I still think he is better than Cathartic Adept ...

1
Posted 14 May 2014 at 14:59

Hmm... I don't know. like I said, it is a FANTASTIC card. But it just isn't an actual mill card. And there really are not any power mill cards other than hedron crab, so if I run a non-mill card, the others have to be able to cover for it and u an not sure how well they can do that. I will mashed the switch for now, and see how it works out.

1
Posted 14 May 2014 at 17:24

How bout you think in reverse. Who will cover the others when your opponent attacks?

1
Posted 14 May 2014 at 23:42

I guess that is true, although I had figured that perhaps the speed at which I can mill and discard could make it very difficult to cast spells.

1
Posted 15 May 2014 at 02:38

Mill can't stop spells ... your opponent still has his hand, remember? Since mill is a form of control, it's important to remember that your main weakness is aggro decks.

A dedicated burn deck could still nail one of your mill creatures, and thrown down a Kiln F(r)iend or Guttersnipe. A good Boros deck could still get 4 or 5 creatures out before you milled them to oblivion. Jace's Phantasm is invaluable in these circumstances.

Also, if your opponent has the highly common counter to mill, Elixir of Immortality, having Jace's Phantasm becomes a necessary reply. Your opponent will have to choose between holding onto the artifact or sacrificing it to deal with Jace's Phantasm.

1

well, since I have black in here I could add in BFG, and that MIGHT be an ok addition, but I don't know... it seems just a tad too cheap mana wise.

although I did seriously consider gleemax.

Thanks knight, you still going to create a one drop dimir deck? There's still simic, azorius, golgari and selesnya that no one has done yet......

Kazzong beat me to Dimir, and I have just made several Dimir decks. I think I will have a change of pace and try selesnya next.

I was thinking you were going to do one as well, and we would see who's was better, and that one would be part of the 1 mana series. Hence why I said in the description that this one MIGHT be part of it.

Gitaxian Probe instead of Telepathy?

0

Mmm... I like gitaxian probe but I am not sure if I want to add only one of it as a swap out for telepathy. But I will think about it. :)

0

I like Gitaxian Probe too. It absolutely rocks. Since you pay 2 life, spend no mana, and draw a card...it pretty much is like running 56 cards in your deck instead of 60, if you run 4 of them, right? It takes the old school cycling mechanic to an entirely different level. That is how I look at it.

If noone else has suggested it, use "extract" from around the odyse block i think...

More, nobody has suggested it yet, and it is a pretty good card, but I think that I like surgical extraction a little better. Good suggestion though. :) I will sideboard it for sure

Thought Scour and Extirpate perhaps? Aqueous Forms for the Scry effect?

0
Posted 21 May 2014 at 23:54

While scry is excellent, I do no attacking at all with this deck, so aqueous form would be wasted here.

0
Posted 22 May 2014 at 01:15

Fair enough, I use them in my dimir to get Shimian specter and mirko through, but sometimes it just goes on hedron crab for essentially "tap scry 1" I do recommend thought scour though, very efficient card with mill two on an opponent and then you get to draw one

0
Posted 22 May 2014 at 02:21

I did think about it, but I looked time scour a bit better. I will sideboard for now. And see which I like better. :)

0

For a more control-like design you can use field of dreams and lantern of insight coupled with shrieking sliver, cathartic adept, ghoulcaller's bell or pyxis of pandemonium. You can lock down an opponent early and permanently with this stuff if you are allowed to use stuff like dark ritual or even mox opal/lotus petal...

0
Posted 26 May 2014 at 15:17

yeah, those are 1 mana legal. very interesting. I hadn't even thought of it that way. only mill certain cards to control what they have in their hand... wow. well done. that IS very powerful. Mill smarter rather than try and brute force it. in fact I will build another 1 mana mill deck just for that. Thanks for the excellent suggestions. :) I shall link it here when it is done.
