Deck Description

Thanks everyone for helping me get to Top Decks! But, sadly I'm not using this deck anymore and took it apart last week. Now I'm using a deck more focused around Birthing Pod and I would love for you all to take a look at that one instead.

I made a totally revised Zombie Pod deck that you all should check out.

Deck discussion for Blood Pod

I don't think you should have Nihil Spellbomb mainboarded because unless you're playing against my mill deck with Haunting Echoes, it's use is limited. At it's worse, its a 2 mana draw one card.

Also, since most of your damage isn't from directly attacking anyways, maybe consider replacing your Diregraf Ghouls with Typhoid Rats to discourage your opponents from attacking you until you're ready to start blowing stuff up?

Typhoid rats is actually a really good idea. Because of deathtouch, when I shoot a creature with mortarpod, its an instant kill unless the creature is indestructible. Also, Nihil spellbomb isn't just good against haunting echoes. Right now, some of the decks that are popular thrive off of being able to play out of their graveyard, and at the very least I can shit down a creature with undying and get a card out of it. It's use is a lot bigger than you would think.

Ah I missed that Nihil Spellbomb can exile an opponent's graveyard as well.

Awesome deck idea! This would be a lot of fun to play in FNM. I like the combination of Mortarpod, Grave Crawler, and Blood Artist. Blood Artist is a nasty card, and it successfully handed me defeat in the last FNM I played in. Plus, you gotta love Killing Wave. Really cool deck!

I should have added this: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=346648 It's my latest FNM deck. I'd like to know what you think.

so i run a deck almost exactly like this, use hex parasites, and demonlords, they will allow you to nuke OVER and OVER, and that will be amazing, pod your msgr to grab a demonlord, hex to remove +1/+1 and sac msgr to demonlord again, 6 dmg and you gain 2!

Yeah i've played using the demonlord before, he's pretty good, but I haven't really had too much of a use for him. Maybe once some of the scars stuff rotates out I'll put him to use. Plus, I'm not sure what I'd take out right now

I played a Mirrodin Crusader Deck against a deck that was very similar to this one, and it beat the stuffing out of it. consider "Killing Wave" or "Black Sun's Zenith", both of which will help your deck in the long run anyway. Also, consider "Mortarpod".

I used to run killing waves and mortarpods but found them to not be as successful as using a birthing pod and switching out blue for red. you should check out the deck list in the description and tell me what you think of that one.

You should include a Phyrexian Obliterater or two so you can pod from the Messenger to it or just play it since your deck is nearly mono-black. Phyrexian Crusader could be useful as a sideboard or a few copies main because it can put a clock on the opponent and kill your opponent the same speed as a Mirran Crusader can do 20 to you (with no boosts that is), and since you gain life from Blood Artist, you could possibly win the race.

I think Butcher Ghoul is unnecessary and you could probably pull out a copy of Diregraf Captain

I've tried Phyrexian Crusaders and they don't really work with the deck. I don't have enough infect damage for them to be worth it. I would use obliterators but I don't actually use this deck in standard anymore. I switched to the Zombie Pod deck. There's a link for that in the description and it would be great if you could give that a look.

A single 5 and 6 mana cost creature could be erally beneficial in case you need some beef against an aggro deck or something

I'd take out 2 fumespitters because you just won't be that hard up to keep your geralf's around, 2 captain's because you most likely will be podding to geralf's, 1 diregraf ghoul because that still leaves you with 7 one-drops for podding and you want more gravecrawlers anyway, and put in 2 killing waves because they work wonders with this kind of deck because you can kill whatever you want on your side to trigger your artists while pressuring your opponent to choose between loss of live and keeping creature or loss of life with no creature and opponent life gain, and then 3 creatures to pod up from your geralf's: i suggest skinrender for control at 4, then zealous conscripts to steal a potential planeswalker or shrine at 5, and i HIGHLY recommend massacre wurm at 6 because in this death-based deck it is an almost 100% game-ender.
