Deck Description

I want to make a zoo deck that isn't the same as everyone else's. I like this kind because I saw a video on You Tube with Josh Utter-Leyton playing a deck like this and I loved it. Please comment!

I have never played a deck remotely like this one but the low mana cost along with the powerful effects they have seem really good.

Now, I have to thank you for introducing me to knight of the reliquary. I am going to go make a landfall deck now.

It looks good. Brimaz is awesome. I love the Noble Hierarchs for mana fix and exalted. Have you considered Elspeth, Sun's Champion instead of Knight Errant?

The only reason i don't run her is she costs 6 instead of 4, and I get about 4 mana producers most games so I don't think she would work to well but i'll try her thanks!

If anyone has advice for cards against cards like firespout and engineered explosives that would be great! Because this deck has problems against them. :)

Swan song for firespout, annul for explosives. Both are one drops. Or glen elendra archmage. You can sac it to counter noncreature spell and it has persist. I'm trying to think of something that will give u an advantage after u play it so you don't waste mana. I would suggest render silent but this is a four color deck and that spell is mana intensive.

thanks! What about spell pierce? I'm thinking maybe 1 spell pierce and 1 swan song? :)

That could work if you play it right. Better than stynied hopes even if you get to scry. Honestly, ive never even heard of pierce. I am still getting used to modern. Standard was starting to get confusing what with rtr rotating out soon.

No sac lands? Right now I am playing a Bant land cycling deck to make the most of knight. I have found that knight of the reliquary is the ultimate mana fixed. You pop it out, pop out evolving wilds or bang panorama or something like that, sac the land for a plains or forest sac the new land for another land, wash, rinse, repeat. It is great for deck thinning. Ill make the deck on here later and give u the link if you'd like. Also, id love some advice on my white weenie splash red. I want to fin suns champion but I don't know what to take out for it. This is my first real attempt at modern unlike my experimental land cycling deck.

Yeah. You had me with the name alone! "Hey honey. What did you do today?" "Do you really need to know?" I forgot to plus 1 the deck. Sorry about the sac lands. I forgot about the dual colored ones.

Big Zoo! All right! I'd say fit in some Rancors. That card has exceptional value, and puts a WIld Nacatl, Tarmogoyf, or Knight of the Reliquary over the top.

The Bant Charms. They are too expensive for Zoo anyway.

Yes, but Rancors are way too useful to not play them and the Bant Charms don't really add anything.

Actually gaddock teeg is very annoying to most decks, so I keep one in the Sideboard and one in the main deck. Thanks, I think I should put 1 of the bant charms in the SB in exchange for one of the counterspells. :)

wow! That is one expensive deck! Haha! I love it! But I think that you need a couple red creatures though, otherwise there isn't enough red, but I love the concept! I've never heard of zoo before!

This isn't a typical Zoo deck, though. Zoo is a very old concept: Get the best low cost creatures of several colours (back then creatures like Kird Ape, Savannah Lion, Flying Men etc.), couple them with cheap pumpers and burn (back then stuff like Lightning Bolt, Giant Growth, Berserk, Blood Lust, Unstable Mutation) and then, because you empty your hand fast, draw-7-effects (Wheel of Fortune, Timetwister, Windfall). Google "Granville's Explosion deck" and you know what I mean :)

But Zoo has always stayed alive somehow in various forms and formats. It's fun and versatile because, playing 3 or 4 colours, you will always be able to pack all kinds of solutions for the problems your meta gives you in the sideboard.

yeah I don't like the typical zoo decks so much because the're to straight-forward for me. like if your opponent has a firespout it's almost game. So i'm trying to make this deck more like better creatures that you can't get out as fast. but You reminded me of this one time I looked up how the stack worked because i didn't know how and there was an example of two people and one person played flying men, then on the other player's turn that player bolted flying men and then the other person counterspelled it and then the other person brainstormed and got cancel and countered the counterspell and it went back and forth all over a flying men, it was really funny. :)

Could use some more card types to trigger the goyf. Someone suggested rancor but that never hits grave. I personally like armadillo cloak or unflinching courage for the life gain and trample. Also helps with tarmogoyf.

All in all a great idea and a very good deck.

Oof! Way too greedy. You don't have to worry about goyfs; they always end up big.

0

yeah they are always big. because it's normally they will probably have sorceries and i can do land creatures and instants and sometimes planeswalkers and it's just a big creature! :)

I really like the side theme of controlling the opponent's non-creature spells, taking out a lot of threats like big burn spells or overall destruction like "Planar Cleanser". Very interesting combinations!

This list is very interesting. Some aspects of the popular zoo decks but lots of stuff that is quite different.
Geist is pretty strong, maybe make him a 2 of? You will get the blue mana fetched very easily I believe.

Also how about Steppe Lynx? He synergizes extremely well in zoo decks. Especially in this one because of Knight of the Reliquary.
You could cut some of the Noble Hierarchs for example since you usually want to attack with more than one creature anyways so Exalted won't be of much use. Also you don't really need the ramp since your mana curve is super low anyways.

Actually I do attack with one creature a lot of the time. I don't know about steppe lynx, I think He's just really isn't that good actually. thanks! :)

don't quite agree on this one--I think a one drop creature that gets +2/+2 for every time a land comes in is nothing to shake a fist at.

Jeeeeezss, i knew zoo was expensive but this costs way more then i hoped it to be. but still i love it, nothing better then a full zoo. filled with giant goyfs etc.
could you help me with my new budget deck. it costs a little less than this deck. (5%) xD

You are funning 4 color zoo and no tribal flames. Run at least 3. Drop 2 bant charms and a helix for them. 4 damage for 2 mana can end the game easily.

Yes I do agree bant charm is only ok in decks like this but I don't think he should take it out for flames

I am a huge fan of the zoo decks in modern these days. This big zoo looks like it would be a lot to handle. I run small zoo and have had a lot of success. I run the boros charms in the main and the planeswalkers in the side. I feel like the damage straight to the face is very valueable in game 1. Game 2-3 I will slow it down a little bit with the planeswalkers, and the opponent still has to respect the instant speed burn to the face which you may have sided out. Take a peek at my list, there might be an idea or two you can grab.

+1 from me!

I'll go check it out, I agree that in small zoo the planeswalkers are not quite as helpful as the charms are. :)
