Deck Description

They're an old threat, and while most people think of them as being a thing of the past, they're still out there...resting, plotting, waiting to swoop in and claim their spot at the top of the food chain again. To rule over Ravnica, Theros, and all planes in between.

Here be dragons!

How to Play

Dragons in Standard? Can it be? In the words of Lloyd Christmas, "so you're saying there's a chance." I think there is, folks! A very good one thanks to some nice additions from Born of the Gods.

In my Modern (http://www.mtgvault.com/jre47/decks/reign-of-fire-modern) and Legacy (http://www.mtgvault.com/jre47/decks/reign-of-fire-legacy) Dragon decks, I had more ramp at my disposal than I do now. But BnG gave us one potential ramper that could help the cause here, one which makes this the only one of the three decks to splash another color: Satyr Hedonist. He's basically a Desperate/Pyretic Ritual on legs, enabling you to land a Scourge of Valkas or Stormbreath Dragon (BnG's other huge contribution) as early as Turn 3, and nearly any other Dragon fatty the turn after that. That's some SICK potential...yeah, I HAD to splash green for that little Satyr.

Beyond that, this plays out similarly to my Modern version: burn the field clear with your sorceries and instants and then just land Dragon after Dragon. Hammer of Purphoros gives your Dragons haste to make them even more of an imminent threat...and immune (at least for a turn) to sorcery-speed removal, since many popular instant-speed removal spells can't touch them. (Well, aside from black, but there's not much helping that).

What do you think? Could Dragons actually have a shot, even in Standard? What are YOUR thoughts?

Deck discussion for Reign of Fire (Standard)

This deck looks amazing! Most people underestimate the power of the standard Dragons, but they can really give your opponent a major headache. I love Stormbreath Dragon because white removal is so popular in standard and he throws a wrench in their whole plan.

Dragons are amazing. SCOURGE is amazing. Especially when everything is a dragon!
