If there's anyone on this site that's been following my decks, they'd notice I'm a big tribal fan. Probably no card shows up in my decks more often than Cavern of Souls. :-)
Some tribes are easy and obvious: Vampires, Zombies, Elves, Goblins, Humans, a few others. Not to take away from those decks at all (I have tribal decks for them all that I love), but some of them practically build themselves. Others take a bit of work.
I've been exploring some tribes that actually had more support in the past then they do now, but still continue to get some powerful helpers in most every recent block: Warriors, Archers, Berserkers, obscure tribes like that. Here's another: Assassin.
Like some of the other "looser" tribes, there's really only one card that truly ties all these Assassins together, but it's a beaut: Scarblade Elite. It basically lets you turn a killed/sacrificed Assassin into another, from-beyond-the-grave kill. And not just any kill, but one of the "Destroy target creature. PERIOD" variety.
The Elite pairs particularly well with Garza's Assassin, who conveniently sacrifices itself to wipe a creature out. Sac Garza's Assassin, then tap Scarblade Elite to exile it and get two kills for the price of one.
The other Assassins all unsurprisingly focus on quick kills, but they do it in many varied ways. Royal Assassin does it if they tap. Guul Draz Assassin does it with -X/-X effects. Thrill-Kill Assassin does it in the red zone. Kiku does it by having creatures essentially "fight" themselves.
And there's even more ways to get around pesky creatures with Geth's Verdict, Smallpox, Tragic Slip and other spells.
So we've got creatures covered...but what's our real wincon? The easy one is clearing the field and then swinging in for damage. But what can really push things over the edge is damaging the opponent when those creatures die. Blood Artist can do this all by itself, especially in multiples, but you can take chunks away at a time with Flesh Allergy and especially Shriveling Rot.
If that's not cutting it, some simple Unholy Strength can accelerate red zone damage, and Massacre Wurm (sadly NOT an Assassin, but fits with the overall theme) can win a couple different ways.
I'm betting this needs a little help to be truly competitive, but I think there's potential here. What do YOU think?
