Do you like blitzing the competition? Do you enjoy surprising people with unique and unexpected combat tricks? Do you like saving your hard-earned money? Then I may have the deck for you....
Like my other recent budget decks (see below), this one focuses on real-life cost and strives to keep it around $10. (This would easily be under that if not for those too-good-to-cut Cacklers!) But it also strives to be competitive and squeeze a lot of value out of undervalued cards. These decks may not win you the next Open, but they should turn some heads as you blow through your local FNM...for about the price of the entry fee!For red, the plan is as you'd expect: hit early and hit often until your opponent's life hits 0. Cackler, (first) Striking Sliver, and Rakdos Shred-Freak get the party started early. Pump them up with your budget's best friend Madcap Skills or catch them by total surprise with a discarded (and uncounterable) Pyrewild Shaman or Rubblebelt Maaka, or spring Weapon Surge (mass first strike and a small strength boost for 2 CMC? Yes, please!) to get mass damage in early. When the first couple turns pass, keep the pressure on with Archetype of Aggression to keep your heavy-hitting early threats relevant, Two-Headed Cerberus becomes a great target for later combat tricks (imagine him with Madcap Skills!), or bring out a true beatstick with Awaken the Ancient. And then drop Fanatic of Mogis to finish things off, who should have plenty of red devotion to spot by then. The sideboard is chock full of budget-friendly answers to various decks you may face. Mindsparker can be a brutal answer to U/W builds, Reckless Reveler can remove annoying artifacts, and Wrecking Ogre and Forgestoker Dragon can help you get through tough blockers if you stall out. Or just pull in additional burn, especially if you're facing another creature-heavy aggressive deck.Try it out at FNM sometime, and have fun!(If you like this, check out my other budget devotion decks at http://www.mtgvault.com/jre47/decks/10-budget-black-devotion and my popular http://www.mtgvault.com/jre47/decks/10-budget-green-devotion)
