Deck Description

"Everyone cut, cuts back double." Chauntecleer
--The Book of Sorrows--
Quote is from one of my Favorite books.

Idea of this deck is to cut myself and then cut back double.

How to Play

Original idea was try to have 2 Win Conditions.
1) Death's Shadow/Wall of Blood and Fling/Rite of Consumption on them. Basically, kill yourself with stuff like Wall of Blood/Lurking Evil so that you can attack with Death's Shadow.

Something like this: Have Wall of Blood in play. Have 10 life. Play Death's Shadow. Shadow is a 3/3 with summoning sickness. Next turn. Pay 9 life to Wall of Blood. Now you have 1 life, Wall of Blood is 9/2. Shadow is 12/12. Simply Attack with Shadow and then Fling Wall of Blood for a possible 21 damage.

First problem...Rite of Consumption...sure, pump up Wall of Blood and cast Rite of Consumption on him. However, if you have Shadow in play...he will lose his power/defense as you gain life. So...Fling looks to be better.

Second problem...can't seem to make the idea work with my second Win Condition.

Second Win Condition:
2) Worldfire. Idea is to suspend stuff like Arc blade/rift bolt. Then Mana ramp into a Worldfire, and the next turn the arc blade/rift bolt activates. Since I am already nuking my own life...Worldfire seems like a neat second win condition.

First problem...If I play Worldfire...then Consumption/Wall of Blood/Fling/Contract/Lurking Evil are useless. Half my deck is.

Second problem...Does Worldfire and Norin the Wary combo?

Deck discussion for The Book of Sorrows

This deck is kind of like the last one you made, It looks a bit more weird than the last one though. :)

Yeah...it is experimental...and needs lots of work.

If you mean does Worldfire exile Norin no B/C he exiles himself when you cast Worldfire and is not there upon resolve. However I have no idea how your gonna make use of him with out any "when another creature enters the battlefield effects. In a suicide deck like this to make your Shadow huge putting Basilisk Collar on it when he swings for big damage will give you big life gain at a crucial time. Usually enough to let you win following turn with another threat or bit of burn

Changed Norin out for Basilisk Collar.
Thanks :)

And obviously, you know what this deck is trying to do.
It probably won't win many games...but the ones that I do win will be very interesting.

Cut myself, cut them double. Heal.
Cut myself more, cut opponent double. Heal.
Cut myself even more, and cut opponent double. Heal.

Question, since you understand the deck and I have not play tested it:
1) Do I kill myself asap.
2) Or do I build up my board, first?

Example: Turn 1. Dark Ritual into a Lurking Evil.
Do I go ahead and take 10 damage?
Or do I wait?
I at least have to get down to 12 life so that Death's Shadow does not die, when he comes into play.

OR
Do I try to play down a Wall of Blood, a Lurking Evil, and a Basilisk Collar while the opponent, himself, does damage to me? And then play down Death's Shadow/pump up Wall of Blood..and Fling/Rite of Consumption?

AND
IF I wait...would something like Swiftfoot Boots be better for Death's Shadow? I mean...play him down when i have 2 or 3 life, and put Boots on him for haste. Or is Basilisk Collar and gaining life better?

If death's shadow is in hand hurt yourself, if not let opponent do the work while building to draw into shadow. That would be my main deciding factor.

It took me a while to see it... Wall of Blood and Death's Shadow have ridiculously good synergy, and you've manage to keep it a semi-budget Legacy. I like a lot ^_^

If you're still looking for a 'finisher' with Worldfire, then I can highly recommend "Keldon Marauders" - their LTB will get you 1 kill

Would not Worldfire exile Keldon, almost as a split second ability? And as Keldon tried to trigger, he would already be exiled?

Not sure, I am awful with rules.

Thanks for the compliment :)

I think that tha marauders would leave then they would deal the damage and then life totals would become 1. :)

I believe that LTB-trigger will activate after Worldfire is done resolving - or that's what I could gather from the net

It's like Burning Inquiry, right? You draw 3 cards and discard 3 cards, you can't do anything in-between. Meaning, you can't draw 3 cards, play them all, and then discard 3 cards.

So, Worldfire would be the same. The entire card would have to resolve, everything exiled AND THEN Marauders would be able to resolve...but he would already be exiled.

Rift Bolt works though. Suspend the spell, play Worldfire, and the Rift Bolt resolves for the win. Or Arc blade suspension, play Worlfire, Arc Blade resolves for the win :)

Or have Wall of Blood in play. Pay 19 life and play Death's Shadow. Now you have a 19/19 and a 13/13. Play Essence Harvest or Rite of Consumption on Wall of Blood and/or Death's Shadow for the win.

I think things can trigger in between, but you can't cast spells or activate abilities. :)
