Deck Description

Flying high with Angels. Lock down the board until you can gather up your mana until you can afford to play game changing Angel creatures. Disrupt your opponent by using cards that block opponent from being able to play. Use lifelink to gain life. Have both a few angels for pure power a few angels that disrupt your opponent.

This is deck Number 3 in the Creature Challenge tournament. How do you think the Angel deck would do against the Merfolk or Beast deck?

Avacyn, Iona, and quicksilver amulet are really good

Right, forgot to press like : was busy
None of these are good enough?

I mean...I am building 12 different decks. 2 Artifacts decks. 10 creature decks. 2 creature decks of each color. Then I am going to have a tournament to see which Creature is best creature. So far I am on deck number 4.

my only suggestion here would actually be to run chancellor of the annex, and perhaps shattered angel.

Nice deck. Angels for the win! Entreat the angles might fight in here for one of your 4 CMC angels.

With the Scepter and Abeyance/Orim's Chant combo, plus Lifegain, plus Linvala and Blinding Angel...I think the Angels have a great chance at being the top Creature in the tournament. I am not an expert player, but I do not know a way around the Scepter/Chant combo besides the Faeries counterspells. I think a few of the Creature Challenge decks have Artifact destruction...so maybe those cards could get through and kill Scepter.

Just noticed...what a loser I am, that Restoration Angel (while being one of the best angels in magic) does not work on Angels. So, let me look into it, KnightoftheHokeyPokey, and Entreat the Angels may be a perfect replacement. Thanks for the support!

Based on likes on this site, First place will be Goblins and second place will be Angels.

I have a soft spot for the Humans...but am afraid the Faeries will when it all with all of their control and disruption.

Speaking of which ... I still need to check decks 4-10 out!

This needs a lot of work :)

Abeyance is nice and gives you extra cards when put on a stick and would therefore rape any control or combo based deck. However, knowing that you will play exclusively against creature decks, Abeyance is next to useless in this! What your deck is totally missing, though, is creature removal, so my first change to the deck would be to replace the Abeyances with Swords to Plowshares (or Path to Exile).

Entreat the Angels is weak. Horribly overcosted if you try to cast it regularily. So, you have to go for Miracle but without any library manipulation I don't see this working very often. Luminarch Ascension would be my replacement of choice for this. You don't deal any damage to your opponent until the late game and you will prevent your opponent from damaging or attacking you, so this should be active quickly.

Given the Angel theme and knowing that you will play against creature based decks exclusively I would play Voice of All over Story Circle.

Linvala is a gamble. I think Windborn Muse has the better ability considering that most of your decks will attack straight forward instead of using tricks.

Again, a deck without any enchantment or artifact removal, is that a deliberate choice to give all decks equal footings? I mean, look at this deck, Isochron Scepter is mean and Story Circle can shut down mono colour decks easily, it is a bit unfair to leave all other decks without any weapons against these.

This is basically a control deck and what you will do with your mana in the early turns depends much on your draw and what your opponent does. So, we do have room for some nice non-basic lands that come into play tapped and so on. Here some suggestions that would make this deck considerably stronger:
* Emeria, the Sky Ruin - secures your victory in the end game
* Kor Haven - helps you surviving
* Karakas - there is no drawback using this, so I guess you didn't include it out of budget reasons
* Cathedral of War - adds Exalted which is useful since you will be attacking with single creatures a lot
* Quicksand - helps against creatures with protection from: white, regeneration and similar annoyances
* Thawing Glaciers - I am not sure if you have the time to use this but it is worth considering
* Forbidden Watchtower - would add more defense but might violate the deckbuilding rules (because they are no angels)

Deliberate in not putting any Artifact/Enchantment destruction in this deck...you nailed it on the head, this deck is already powerful with Scepter/Chant...and now with Voice of All (which I purposely tried not to add) I have an unblockable/untargetable creature (since all of my Creature Challenge Decks are mono-colored) too. But some of the decks in the Challenge (the weaker seeming ones) do have Artifact/Enchantment hate.

And with nonbasic lands...i might as well consider myself a noob. I am 100 percent sure that almost every deck I have built could be made better by nonbasic lands.
Not even sure how to search them out on Magic Search.

As always, Puschkin, THANK YOU, for giving it to me straightfoward.
I do not get mad or aggravated when you rip my decks. It motivates me.

One day, I will make a deck...and you Puschkin will simply say, "Nice deck!"
lol

Well, some decks of yours *are* nice, I just only ever mentions that when something strikes me as exceptionally nice. See, constructive criticism is way more useful than patting each other's shoulders. This series of decks is all tribal, so there will probably nothing be that impresses me (tribal decks just build themselves), but you have actually done a nice job putting together decks that will be fun to play against each other because they all have basically the same structure. So, the effort as a whole for this project gets a thumbs up from me :)

Thinking, maybe, about buying the deck that wins the tourney...and if it is the Angel deck that wins, your suggestions just lowered the cost by about half. So...that is a plus, too. :)

I would keep myself alive through some lifelink humans, walls, and angelic accord. With some lifegain this card is way better than entreat the angels, which is more of a late game card. You desperately need some one and two drops- as I said, I prefer lifelink, but it's up to you. Angels are late- to mid-game finishers, and therefore are very tricky to make a tribal deck of.

He has Lifelink in the form of Spirit Link! In case you don't know: You can play it on opponent's creatures, effectively negating their damage. Entreat the Angels has already been cut - are you posting from the past?^^ Two-drops? He has Orim's Chant, Luminarch Ascension and Isochron Scepter, all of which are better 2-drops than any creature with lifelink could ever be.

Maybe sideboard Acolyte's Reward for Swords to Plowshares against burn or exalt decks.

Okay. Next chapter in tourney is over.
Angels vs Faeries. Now all decks have played one time each.

Angels vs. Faeries. Turn 4 had everyone tied up/canceled. Between blue's Spellstutter, Counterspells, and Vendilion Clique AND whites Spirit Links and Swords to Plowshares, no one had nothing on the board, much to show. Besides white having a 2nd turn Luminarch Ascension, both decks were top decking on turn 5.

Difference was that Luminarch Ascension. It ended up putting 4 4/4 flyers onto the field. That sealed the deal. It was too fast for the top decking Faerie deck.

Angels vs Faeries
1-0
Angels 16 life and Faeries 0 life.

P.S. Thanks for the Luminarch Ascension advice, Puschkin!

Teams that have lost: Humans, Vampires, Beast, Goblins, Thopters, and Faeries.

ok, so I am NOT going crazy then. :) I was worried for a minute there. :)

one question though. are you doing single games, or matches of best 2 out of 3?

0

Single matches. It is overwhelming, even at single games. I have 12 decks...and want them to each battle each other one time. That is a crap ton of games.

Might end up doing something like have all 12 decks play 5 times. Against random decks. And after all 12 decks have played 5 times each...taking the top 4 decks, and battling them. Not sure.

ok, I guess that makes sense. particularly if you are playing both sides. That makes things difficult at times.
