Deck Description

My take on Zombies in standard. I love the theme of reanimating corpses to spawn an undead army of sheer power, and this is how i plan to achieve the zombie apocalypse.

EDIT: Removed Grimorire of the dead, had no purpose. replaced it with Cackling counterpart
EDIT 2: Skaab Ruinator doesn't help the deck much, replaced it with Skinrender for Creature Removal.
EDIT 3: Added a sideboard that includes countering and assisted attacking options, such as Levitation
EDIT 4: removed alchemist, edited sideboard.
EDIT 5: Dark Ascension Update. Infestation Is gone, Gravecrawler has been added, and I replaced unbreathing Horde with Diregraf Captain. May replace Cemetary Reaper with Havengul Runebinder.

Deck discussion for George A. Romero's Night of The Living Dead

Ruinator kind of runs counterbalance to the Reapers. They kind of like to get in each other's way and ruin each other's plans, like two feuding mad scientists fighting over a design they both claimed to have made years ago. Reaper wants to use the corpses to create an army of undead servants, but Ruinator wants to use said bodies to construct a massive flying flesh golem to wreak havoc on the unknowing plebes. This forces the Reaper to look into other graveyard plots for his corpses, which can mean bad news if he doesn't know the nightwatchmen.

All the while, the Grimoire sits there rereading its plan to itself, not realizing that by the time its wonderfully evil plan comes to fruition, two twits of a pair of scientists have gone and completely ruined its chances at world domination. Fed up, it collapses upon itself in disgust, going to another place in the Blind Eternities to cause trouble.

In the far back of this story playing out, everyone seems to have forgotten the Cellar Door, having been bust open by an apologetic werewolf. If doors could express their thoughts, this one would be saying, "I really could have had a chance to ruin someone's day, if only I hadn't just become Ironfang's doggie door." Cellar Door really wants to play with this deck, and the entire horde agrees.

just one thing though, cemetary reaper doesn't specify which graveyard you have to exile creature from... so really to don't get in each others way

but legacy, he is commenting on the fact that there is still the fact that he doesnt get all of potential he has.

Thanks for the humorous, yet valid, input on my deck. I see the conflict between the Reaper and the Ruinator, I just cant decide on which to remove. Also Grimoire has no place as well, and I might put cellar door in there in its place.

Glad you liked it. I happened to like the deck name, which first drew me in, then looked at the deck itself, which then continued to reel me in. I personally love the idea of hordes of zombies, and this is a good one. Just needs some tweaks, is all.

As for the choices, I'm definitely going to go with the Ruinator getting the boot in this one. He's a great flying tank, no doubt, but what he does in three creatures can PROVIDE you with three creatures that all become 3/3s with the Reaper out. For massive hordes of rotting, putrescent corpses, Reaper definitely gets the win.

I would have suggested Moan of the Unhallowed, actually. Great little spell.

Good to know, may remove skinrender, regardless of his usefulness. May also sideboard him

I'm putting a fairly similar deck together (though currently it's mono-black instead of UB). Is splashing blue working for you? How's cackling counterpart working out? (it looks interesting, but I haven't seen it in play yet).

I've looked at cellar door, and it just doesn't seem that useful given the amount of mana you have to put in on the off chance of maybe getting a zombie (if you are lucky). Have you played with it yet?

its okay, may sub it for a better spell. Its a fun deck, and im updating it when DKA drops. Splashing Blue gives me countering and more field control. Grimgrin is a nice card too, but I think mono-black needs Titans instead.
