The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Deck Description

"Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate.
Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. "
- from the Dunwich Horror, by Howard Philips Lovecraft.

I heard somebody say something about trying Gate in Modern, and I thought it would be an interesting experiment.

Deck discussion for He knows the gate

Not sure what "Gate" is, but if it is anything like my old black sacrifice deck (which it kinda looks like) then I cannot speak highly enough about Consuming Vapors. I helps remove one of their creatures one turn then sac AP the next if needed. Plus, life gain is always nice when Dark Confidant is around.

Kind of. Gate was a deck that really took form around when I started, and it was Mono-Black aggro-control. Dark Confidants, Gatekeepers, Nighthawks, and Abyssal Persecutor made up the beatsticks, and past that it played really good disruption, and as it was black, great kill spells.
My versions have always felt a bit more like the middle ground between Poxless Pox(runs only Smallpox), and TNE to me.

Consuming Vapors is absolutely stellar, but the mana cost, and the only slot I can think to put it would be in place of a Cauldron.

I've personally never been a big fan of Bitterblossom (or Dark Confidant for that matter) and I guess that's why I sold off my playsets of them. The Sword of the Meek combo with Thopter Foundry and Bitterblossom was the only main use I saw for Bitterblossom, still do I suppose. Dark Confidant is pretty good, but I always prefered Howling Mine over him... especially if I'm running any discard spells.
So, for me, I'd drop the Blossom's and add vapors. And I'd add Geth's Verdict in the sideboard over Smother.

I didn't sell my Bitterblossoms, they're currently in the possession of a friend, the card is too good to get rid of. Dark Confidant is as well in my book.
I don't really see where you're going with that setup, it just seems like you're talking about adding a slow stable swarm to an explosive one. And the reason I don't like Howling Mine, especially when running disruption, is that I would rather have a dead card than let them have anything in hand.

I like Vapors, but I like Bitterblossom soooo much more. And Geth's Verdict isn't such a bad idea, I think if I got rid of Smother, it'd be a tough choice between that, and Victim of Night.

Fair enough, I've just never found them useful enough for my play style and never really got the hype behind them. I do with Dark Confidant more so than Bitterblossom, but who doesn't love card advantage? Parting ways with them was hard though since I see myself as a black mana caster at heart, but more recently I've developed a fondness towards blue/black more. Besides, selling Bob and Bitterblossom helped get me more recording gear for my studio. I just picked up a Shure PG42, PS6, SRH440, and Rich got his Line-6 HD500X. I also managed to get a KAT KT2 drum set for tracking because it is substantially easier to track with an electronic kit.
The combo set up was used along with Dark Depth's and Vampire Hexmage, it was basically chump blockers until you released Merit Lage.
As far a dead card versus them having a card in hand... with this deck I thought with the amount of discard you have in it that it would make them go through their deck quickly and be forced to watch it disappear from their finger tips.

I haven't tried the HD500X, but I've heard only lovely things about them, and I know people get absolutely stellar tones from them. Also, while I love Magic, I have to say I'd rather have the recording gear!

I think I remember you posting a few like that, I like the style.

And it has the potential for keeping them always in a bad spot, but it's worse if they don't get the extra draw.

Abyssal Persecutor or Phyrexian Obliterator? Obliterator seems waaaaaaaaaaay better and much more difficult to deal with.

Obliterator is better in most cases, but I don't like my big beatstick getting Dismembered, and I have at least five friends who are running it.
