Deck Description

Dedwards asked me about mono-Green in Modern, and I doodled up something based on what he said. I tried it, and really liked it with a little tweaking.

The title is the song I was listening to during the discussion, and I am simply dreadful at picking names most of the time.

Deck discussion for Chamber the Cartridge

yay stompy! i haven't really looked into modern that much. it's not that i hate it like sure, i just haven't had much interest. that said, if i can use goyf, leatherback, and uktabi drake (a truly classic stumpy card) i might look into making something for modern. a part of me wishes there were more leatherbacks in the deck, but otherwise i like this.

Stompy is good silly fun, and I think it was exactly what I needed to play after being stuck behind Doomsday for so long...

And Modern is actually pretty fun, but I do despise it as much as enjoy it thanks to the fact that it gouged the prices for things. Really, if you look at it, Modern costs now what Legacy did before.

I had used three Baloths, and a sixteenth land in the original design, with no Tarmogoyfs. It's now my favorite budget deck, because the thing costs less than $50!

Also, means a lot that you enjoy this, as your Stompy stuff is pretty much the best!

Mono green is the first deck I ever used in Magic. It has to be the easiest to learn with and any time I see a mono green deck it brings back fond memories. Unfortunately, Force of Nature has not aged well and rarely see's the light of day anymore.
I like this build though. Looks very ferocious and fast paced.

Not really my cup of tea, but i actually do run into similar Green Stompy decks online every once in a while. Usually Goyfless, budget lists. Aspect of the Hydra is pretty interesting though, i've never seen that before. Deck looks fun in a more casual setting. How does it hold up to combo? I guess it just tries to race it?

You should check out this new Modern deck i'v been jamming lately. I think you would like this one!

Yeah, budget Stompy is pretty common, but 'Goyfed up lists seem quite rare oddly. Aspect of Hydra is quite an amazing card here actually, it's been the tipping factor a few times. It's surprisingly fun in a casual setting, I say that as somebody who despises playing Green. It does try to race combo, and it works more often than Zoo, but at the end of the day it's still Green aggro.

Cool! Have to check that out when I get a moment to test a few hands; I'm busy trying to catch up on what I've missed this week.

the reason goyf is so rarely seen in stompy lists is because unless it's in the right kind of deck, it's really not very efficient. that's why you almost always see them in 10L lists, those decks put damn near everything in the graveyard.

and why do you despise green? :(

A fair point I suppose, but it's not so much useless given what the opponent may drop I think. If nothing else, a 3/4 for two mana is pretty damn good. And yeah, 10L will throw pretty much whatever it wants in the graveyard, and still win. That's part of what I like about them.

I just can't stand playing it usually, against it is fun, but green and me just don't along when I'm the one behind it. :|

The only time I find green actually enjoyable myself, is to play it when it is a token based deck. Otherwise, I find the color pretty boring. Red is my least favor color to run mono though. Most of reds lower casting cost creatures are wimpy and the bigger stuff cost a boat load of mana. The instants and sorceries are alright, but I'd rather splash them into a black deck.

Oh man, I like mono-Red so much more than Green when it's me playing. Burn, Sligh/RD, and Goblins! Oh my! Though my Goblins do run Thalia now, the point remains.
