Deck Description

Basic blue tron deck I am putting together. I really enjoy this style of deck, and think it can at least bring in a positive win record most of the time. Best of all, it is actually pretty damned cheap, with a lot of cards that I found lying around. I had to buy the tron and some of the blue bits, but a lot of the more expensive cards I had sitting in my trades. It doesn't have a terrible match-up against most decks other than Gr Tron. Most everything else I can handle. I love to design my game plan in the first few turns of the game. As soon as I know what I am up against, planning what piece to grab and how to deploy it is always interesting. I usually want to mindslaver lock, but that is not usually possible against agro decks.

Nothing revolutionary here. I am wanting to try running Ugin as a second board clear. I think he will be effective against most agro and midrange decks. he can come down, clear the Abzan board, leave my wurmcoil unharmed.

If you want a good walk-through of the deck, I recommend the link at the bottom of this description. It guided me pretty well in constructing this deck.

There are some toys in the board I kinda like for the current Modern meta. Most is fairly standard. I put the Cyclonic rifts in the board but they might become more valuable in the main to help break up combos. I deal with a lot of Zoo and Burn, so Batterskull are in the board for those match-ups. The plan against a successfully cast Blood Moon is always to bounce it and then try to be ready to counter it. That is really the bane of my existence, and if I had a stronger option I would love to include it. I like trickbind over squelch. I get that Squelch cantrips, but I want an answer to storm and persist triggers. With the rise of Amulet Bloom, I am more concerned about the presence of that damned enchantment. To deal with CoCo decks, Hibernation is a 1 of. I might need more, but I like it my other bounce.

I want to add another Snapcaster to the main. I know 4 remands is ideal, but I have stuck to 3 for now (I own 3, so yeah). I am happy with how it is running right now, but I am always looking to test more against matchups. My sideboard is looking to get some work done. I want 1-2 chalices of the void, and 1-2 spell snares. Relic has been the best graveyard hate I could add. I know there aren't a LOT of graveyard threats going on, but I am paranoid about that. CoCo has not really hit my local meta yet, so I will probably make some changes when it matters to me. For now, hibernation is what I am adding in.

Useful Primers and Videos

This is about as good of a primer for this deck as I could find. I highly recommend reading it if you are at all interested in Blue Tron

This is an alright gameplay video. There are some misplays; Brad Nelson clearly isn't used to the deck. Todd Anderson also doesn't put on that much pressure, so that helps.

This is just another youtube video that helps me come to this deck and get playing it.

Finally, Shoktroopa streams the deck quite regularly. He designed the deck, and the stream is incredibly useful. http://www.twitch.tv/kharniverous
