Crucible of Worlds+Jace's Archivist: Crucible of Worlds is a bit pricey, but worth it. Grindstone+Painter's Servant: Grindstone is a bit pricey, but worth it. buying 2 of each will be about $65 but would make the deck have a couple good tricks that make it more efficient.

The main issue that I have is the main cards you use for the core mechanic (land denial); cost so much that by the time you play them, your opponent will most likely have enough land out to do what his deck does. If you splash white: Ghostly Prison: great for dealing with creatures; and Swords to plowshares/path to exile: spot creature removal. Without splashing white; I have no suggestions to improve upon this, but I do have two decks that might peak your interest. One is a true "Lock-Down" Deck, the other is a Black/White Land Destroy. Update: I lower the Broodstars down to 2, and bumped up the Etched Champions up to 4. It does help against some decks.
Yes, the main mechanic is all creature having the two types: Bird, Soldier. So when Aven Brigadier is played they all get +2/+2.
As I said, it is a not issue in actual play.
Yes, I did think of that, and even play tested it, but honestly; by the time I would play it they would already be locked down, and it was unneeded.
If getting creatures out fast was the goal of this deck, then yes. Champion is a blocker with protection verses everything, and broodstar is the kill; those are the only creatures needed.
Every deck will fail against curtain cards/decks, that's a given; pointing that out is like pointing out that leaves fall off trees in the fall. My group of players has 2 that regularly place top ten in Twin Cities tournaments, and this deck they don't like because it works against their top decks; one says every time I beat him that this deck should not work. As I said, in play it is a non-issue.
No, It does not lock down itself. Slow down yes, but this deck does not win fast. In play its a non-issue.
Isochron Scepter would be useless since there are no instant or sorcery.
Yes, I am aware of that; it is a not issue in actual play. You can still do a lot more then they can, esp. since all are low cost or free.

The thing about Tundra Wolves in an EDH deck in multiplayer; is that it is never seen as a threat; some one else is guaranteed to have a bigger stompy. I want to have a few creatures out that are no threat, to use as blockers. If some one knows how big of a threat this deck is they will all gang up to kill you fast. But by the time they realize what this deck does, it is hard for them to deal with, you are controlling the hand of the biggest threat, countering all big stompies and main combo cards, taking their stompies from the grave or in play to make them your own. That is also the need for more land; you need to be able to counter at least 2 players a turn and still play a "thief", enchant, artifact or creature card too. So lots of low mana cards and extra mana. Nice catch on the Akki Underminer. I like your other card suggestions.
I have though about more etched champions and no broodstars but in play it works so I see no need to change it.
lol, yea but the look on peoples faces when you drop a 20+/20+ that's going to be swinging the next turn and there completely locked down is priceless.
There are always cards/decks that will rip any deck to shreds, but this one is fairly solid against most. Even very good deck.
Etched Champion is also a backup
First I'm basing my assessment of your deck off of decks that I'm used to playing with. I play with some really good players, that have really good decks. (They play in every local tournament, and do well) Second there is no such thing as a cheap search card that is any good. There are a lot of cheap crappy search cards, or expensive good search cards. A quicker mana pool could be obtained by: 1) running more then 20 lands 2) running fewer then 40 spells, and running 20 or more lands. 3) Dual lands (they cost $) but are basic lands that tap for 2 colors. Lots of cards that get you basic lands. 4) splashing green or black, black has Dark Ritual, green has the best mana acceleration in the game. 5) using tricks like the ones I noted above with Tezz or Trinket Mage.
Not bad. Check out my artifact deck, its completely original. (as in I'm the first to do it) Deck link: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=50181
That is why I run more then 60 cards, they will draw out before I do if it comes to that.
