I almost always play in 1v1 situations and blood artist hits if the opponent's creature dies as well, but i do agree, scarabs sounds solid!

just a heads up, if you exile simian to gemstone caverns, you can't get both the mana and the counter because the sacrifice is part of his abilities cost.
Pull a splicer, guardian, wisp, and island and add in two venser and brago each? Seas to the sideboard?
