I am confused what the Braid of Fire is for. You can only use the mana for instant speed spells or effects during your upkeep.

This deck is so old that I can honestly say that I don't remember. XD My best thoughts on that would be for Apocalypse Hydra and probably me not realizing that Level Up can only be used as a Sorcery. XD
