The deck was originally called Freezer Burn. It was Coldsnap heavy using Rimescale Dragon and Rimefeather Owl to take advantage of Snow-Covered lands, Training Grounds, and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage. Realizing that both Rimescale and Rimefeather were far too expensive to use effectively, I went searching for better alternatives. Unfotunately Timayo was also cut due to changes that couldn't take advantage of tapping out an opponents creatures. Discovering the interaction of Izzet Guildmage and Training Grounds gave me a cheap way of replicating low cost spells, but I didn't consistently have enough mana to execute it well. Soulbright Flamekin alleviated some of that but the real gem was Manamorphose turning it into an Infinite Combo. If I could ever afford Cryptic Command I'd consider removing Jace, Architect of Thought in that space. For now this deck works decent against the local meta.
Training Grounds, Izzet Guildmage, and Manamorphose in that order. This can be executed as early as turn three. Snow lands feed into Skred and Scrying Sheets giving additional draw/peek depending on the card. Boros Reckoner/Skred isn't ideal for the Reckoner, but it turns Skred into a player burn. Otherwise Skred is used for larger opposing threats. Remand and Dissolve act as counters to protect our combo and also allows use an additional draw or Scry mechanic. Lava Spike is preferred over Lighting Bolt due to it's spell type allowing to replicate Lava Spike with three mana and a Soulbright Flamekin to net eight red mana for an Izzet Guildmage for a wincon. Sideboard adds more protection if needed and hoses some Modern staples in competitive play.
