Deck Description

So with cards like Jace Architect of Thought, Tidebinder Mage, and Nightveil Specter phased and left in the dust for casual play nowadays, Mono-Blue Devotion has had it's 2-year reign finally in an end. People moved on to Khans, and people have been running the severasl tournament-impacting Khans such as Abzan, Jeskai..........................um.........Abzan, Jeskai........Abzan, Mardu......ok in summary, Abzan and Jeskai decks.

What if I told you Mono-Blue Devotion still existed somehow? They still have tools, right? They're not COMPLETLEY dead, correct?

I realize it's been ages since I've been on this website posting decks again, but here I am attempting to revive the long-forgotten Theros legend, which would be Mono-Blue Devotion. For those of you that don't know what this was, if you haven't been playing Standard for the past 2-years, it's a deck consisting of permanents with Blue-mana symbols on their card that add more mana and do crazy shenanigans, such as Master of Waves getting 6-7 tokens when he gets played.

How to Play

So in order for Mono-Blue Devotion to work properly post-Khans of Tarkir, we need to work with a more aggressive approach, casting small creatures with blue-mana symbols in our cards.

Hypnotic Sirens and Triton Shorestalker are our 1 drops with evasion, getting in for extra damage as well as efficiently adding the devotion we need. Dakra Mystic is also a nice one drop for whenever we have a mana open for her she can get to other cards we need faster.

Mindreaver in this deck is simply a 2/1 for UU. I am completely ignoring his effect for milling, but even then Mindreaver does his job: adding more devotion early game with his UU mana cost. Vaporkin is another 2-drop that also has evasion for the early game.

The 4 Thassa in the deck (yes, we're running four) is 1 of our big hitters. It's ability to scry helps to get to certain cards quicker. Any creature that could normally be blocked she can help make that creature unblockable. as well as being a 5/5 Indestructible to support in the aggressive game.

Master of Waves is our other big creature playing several 2/1 tokens as well as buffing the Vaporkin to a 3/1 flyer. The protection from red is also an incredible ability, bypassing Magma Jet, Lightning Strike, and Stoke the Flames entirely (take that Jeskai!).

The other spells in the deck are here to hinder the opponent. Bident will get extra cards for us, and will provide free attacks for our creatures when we can take the damage, for as long as our opponent's creatures don't have vigilance.

And even if they do (Mantis Rider), you can tap them for a really long time with the power of the now-recognized Singing Bell Strike. At the price of 2 mana only, this stops incoming blockers very effectively. Encrust can also do the same thing as well as adding more devotion than usual, but don't forget that the creature must be tapped first.

A single Thassa's Ire is used to tap creatures when we don't have Thassa or cards like that to do the tapping or unblockable effects.

Icy Blast is beautiful in this deck, for as if you have a Thassa in play turned on and really to destroy things, Ice Blast will play incredibly well, tapping creatures for more than 1 turn as well as having your Thassa and your little guys attack in 2 turns (most likely around 16 damage if your opponent has nothing to stop any of them).

As for our mana base, we simply have 3 Nykthos and 20 Islands. Nykthos can be used to raise our mana base and with that in mind, don't forget we can get rid of a Nykthos for another Nykthos and keep adding more mana. I would put in fetchlands to use in this deck to thin the deck even further, but let's not forget, fetchlands are pricey, being placed at $10 - $15 per fetchland. While this deck remains at $50, which is very cheap for a Standard deck, I do not want to increase the price even further for a small purpose. I'll keep this deck budget, but if you have any Polluted Deltas and Flooded Strands, you'll want to add them since they can search for Islands thinning the deck.

As for the Sideboard, 4 Aetherspouts and 4 Whelming Waves are here to boardwipe any tokens during the end of the game when we need to. Void Snare and Jace, the Living Guildpact can return nonland permanents to the owners hands, even though Jace can ease our drawing a bit more. There's also another Encrust to add against say, Abzan Midrange.

I have currently playtested and made this deck at Tappedout.net against a certain Jeskai Wins deck. So if you want to playtest the deck and see for yourself, go to the following link below:

<a href=http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/17-12-14-post-khans-mono-blue-devotion/>http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/17-12-14-post-khans-mono-blue-devotion/</a</a

I also have considered Treasure Cruise for this deck since that has seen unbelivable popularity since day 1 and can provide the draw. Maybe as a one of but there's not that much cards going to the grave to add for delve unless we add the fetchlands. So I'll leave that up to you if you own all of these cards.

So with cards like Thassa and Master of Waves at a very small price compared to what they originally were, you can get at least the mainbvoard for this deck for $50. So try it out! See if you want this deck!

(sorry there's something glitched out with the blue link so I can't fix the blue text. I don't know, consider it as a color! Yes, a color to fit the revival of Mono-Blue Devotion).

Deck discussion for Mono-Blue Devotion(Post-Khans)

I also use a blue devotion deck had to swich it up after getting wreaked at FNM by a scary super friends deck and rw token builds. Thoughts on clever impersonator? Haven't tested him yet but the ability to copy the best threat, plans walker, or double a master seems sick

This may be too late to answer this, but better late than never I guess.

It's nice tocopy whatever what my opponent has, but then again, it's opponent dependent. So probably sideboard it if this is still relevant to you.

Currently I am running 2 main board, he works great copying a master of waves or their biggest threat. Seems with dragons we get some much needed updates:
Shorecrasher Elemental, Gudul Lurker, Stratus Dancer, and Mirror Mockery some other interesting options as well, waiting till after release to see what prices will do.

Most Definitley Shorecrasher Elemental and Mirror Mockery. They're going to be must includes for the mono-blue devotion we're thinking of when Master of Waves is out key card. Gudul Lurker would pretty much be a strictly better Triton Shorestalker with his megamorph option, and Stratus Dancer would be a nice surprise to most control decks out there, and you can put that in with Gudul to have your opponent guess a bit. I would consider all those options.

Mirror mockery I think will be great replacement for singing bell strike, copy a master every turn to flood with tokens or take out their best threat. Shorecrasher isnt the best mythic but the UUU cant be past up, I think this will drop in price this week watching on MTG price trackers and ebay.

Almost everything is going to drop in price. I honestly don't see even Narset being close to over a $30 card.
