Deck Description

Life gain, Lifegain, and a little pain. This is probably the slowest deck I own but it creates such a great foundation that this deck doens't fizzle it just has good synergy that every turn there is something happening.

Some Notable combo's are:
Sanguine Bond+ Souls of the Faultless. If they attack you they are losing life to 2x what the attack damage would have dealt and you gain that much life.

Wall of Reverence+ Ajani's Pridemate: Ajani is going to be your creature with the biggest attack. and thanks you Wall of Reverence you will be gaining that much life each turn.

Ajani's Pridemate+ Soul Sisters: Pretty Self explanatory. You lay down 1 creature and Ajani is going to get proc'd for however many sisters you have out. This also goes for your Opponent.

Vampire Nighthawk/Divinity of Pride + Sanguine Bond: Any creature with Lifelink is going to play nicely with Sanguine.

Deck discussion for Lifepain

For the Sanguine Bond, add an Exquisite blood for an infinite combo.

nah, I didn't want to run the infinite combo. I actually chose to run Sanguine Bond over Exquisite blood. It's just not fair to anyone else and noone will want to play against you. My main problem is whether I should run Souls of the faultless over Nyx-fleeced Ram.

I disagree that no one will wanna play against you and that it's not fair if you run Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond. For starters they are both 5 cmc cards being played in a format that usually doesn't run anything over a 3 cmc. That combined with the fact you have no mana ramp at all means best case scenario you play them turn 5 and turn 6 If you actually hit having both in your hand. Doing so you are gonna be leaving yourself open and not playing that Divinity of Pride calling out. So I guess I feel that if your opponent can't beat you by then or deal with at least one of them then they deserve it.

So what advice do you have to improve the deck then? Do you think it's beneficial to run mana ramp? I really am open to constructive criticism. I've never played/made a life gain deck so this deck is all just what sounds good to me. I'm playing the deck how it's set up right now and it's a lot of fun. Minus the souls of the faultless. I'm picking them up from a card shop tonight. I'm running the Nyx-Fleeced Ram for now. My basic premise is to build a defense with the defenders and pridesmates, Proc'ing them and gaining life with the soulmenders until they are monstrous. Beat them down with the flyers, slow them down with Blind obedience, and just whittle away and their life with Extort and sanguine bond. I haven't played since Mirrodin cycle and just got back into the game about a month ago. Even back then I only 15 year old and ran a soldiers deck and a burn deck and didn't venture to learn new things. So I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things. I'd like to play Gifts of Orzhova but just don't know where to work it into the deck.

Well I think you should cut the wall of limbs all together it's just not good, run Wall of Reverence instead of that. Souls of the Faultless is definitely gonna help out but I would cut all 4 Soulmenders to play 4 of them. Nyx-Fleece Ram would be way better then Soulmender to gain you the life since you will be able to use them as blockers more then once while still gaining life without tapping. Obzedat, Ghost Council is great as a 1 of maybe cut 1 Ordeal for that. In addition I don't think your running enough removal, cut res for the weary and add go for the throat.

I've never heard of Wall of Reverence but I love it. The only reason I kept Soulmender over Nyx-fleeced ram is because it's a first turn drop. But the trade off is a pretty fair one. I made the appropriate changes but I put Obzedat in my sideboard.

After that if you wanna turn this into not budget at all. Replace the Tithe Drinker with Serra Ascendant and add 4 fetch lands and 4 shock lands.

Ya Obzedat is more of a fun casual card. What are your plans with this deck anyway? Are you thinking of going to your local store with it for tourneys?

Haha I Could only wish. My wife threw a fit when I bought the cheap Elspeth for my soldier deck. I couldn't dream dropping $150-ish on 12 cards. But I guess we each have limits. Thank you for the advice though. it is much appreciated.

Really cool deck bro! It has everything in its place, killing spells, big bombs, early gamers, healing...
All you need is some sideboard Artifact/Enchantment-smashing and you are all-set! How about Revoke Existence?

That definitely works. I've also added Bile Blight in case I come across a Token deck.

Add Godless Shrines and Marsh Flats!

0

Godless shrine yes. I could probably throw two in there right now. But I'm wanting to build a standard deck. And for the price of one marsh flats I could build one of the standard decks I have on here. One is W/U. One is W/G. I just can't decide on which one.

SOUL WARDEN!!!!!!!!!!!! NOONE SAID SOUL WARDEN!!!!!! I dropped the tithe drinkers and 1 ram for a set. Also picked up two godless shrines

All the W/U Sorin and Soul's Attendent, then bitterblossom because if you have a soul warden out its a free token

Should I drop Nyx-fleeced ram for the Soults Attendent?, then I feel like Elspeth, sun's champion would be a better fit with dropping three soldiers each turn.

0

In modern, this sort of deck is usually the aggressor so you want to curve off at 4 which is why Sorin fits and |Elspeth is a tad high on the curve, Elspeth Knight Errant is better, but then you're slipping into B/W tokens. Souls of Faultless don't really do much for you so I would cut them. Lingering Souls suits this deck, the black splash to Soul Sisters usually is to make tokens and Sorin

Auriok Champion would be another perfect 2 drop for this deck in place of Fleece-Ram, but the're $17 each so then Suture Priest would probably be my pick over Soul's Attendant. You are basically making a "Soul Sisters deck" featured here http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/boab/144

You want both of those guys: Soul Warden and Soul Attendent= Soul Sisters 4 life, I remember playing the deck, the eldest version of Soul Warden is beautiful!

You could probably cut Divinity by one. You never wanna get 2 of those in your hand early game.

I'm not sure divinity is really what you want, I mean is it fast enough?

0

Serra Ascendant is in SB I assume B/C of the budget so I imagine Divinity is there in place of.

^^exactly^^ I will cut it by one though.

So i've messed around with the deck a little bit so far. But i'm really attached to Souls of the Faultless. I just think it's a slick card that with Sanguine bond will make the opponent think twice about attacking. i did drop it to three though, and I don't just want to copy the Soul Sisters deck. I want to have my own synergy and flair of the deck. In the Soul Sisters deck your lifegain is based around creatures entering the battlefield. it doesn't have any destroy. Do i cut Mortify and go for the throat to add more creatures? I just don't know if I would like that. I've also added elspeth for her +2 ability which will just get more powerful with shrine of loyal legion

I understand that and i appreciate the help. I just don't want to make my deck a copy of someone else's. I dropped Blind Obedience and i think that's a great card to have for an aggro heavy deck.

No I see that, but I think you can make a hybrid token soul sisters, bitter blossom will win you games so easy

0

Alright i've added a set of sisters, and 3 suture priest, and if I have a suture priest out you could play alliance of arms for some tokens or shrine of loyal legion.

As well at no point did HorizonBlue say he wanted help to make this competitive. It was always a casual thing in which to tweak within a budget.

From my understanding anyway.

I'm afraid your understanding is incorrect, he asked on the deck I had on the hot page to come and look at this deck and a goblin one because I offered to anyone viewing it that I would help make modern decks competitive

0

My mistake. I've been under the assumption this was a casual deck as he expressed earlier on this page. I'm afraid if this deck is gonna become a competitive deck in modern it's gonna need the 4 Serra Ascendant the fetches and the shocks, as well the 3 ordeals should be cut for 3 Swords. Light and Shadow, Fie and Ice, Feast and Famine. after all that it will need a proper sideboard to reflect his local meta, common hate cards for the threats most typical where he's playing . Probably an answer for torpor orb B/C I know that's what I'd sideboard against this deck.

I did ask for help on another deck ManialManiac. I guess i just didn't realize the change that it would entail. I will slowly add money into this deck to turn it into a competetive Modern. I've changed the deck to reflect the way it's currently set up and my sideboard is the cards on my to do lost.
