The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Deck Description

Zugzwang is a situation found in chess and other games, where one player is put at a disadvantage because he must make a move when he would prefer to pass and not to move. The fact that the player is compelled to move means that his position will become significantly weaker. A player is said to be "in Zugzwang" when any possible move will worsen his position.

I have been trying to create a deck where, no matter what my opponent plays, one spell from me will leave them in a worse position than before. (AKA: Zugzwang) Granted, there are obvious exceptions, (Like planeswalkers) But I think it represents the theme well. Considering it's a budget deck, I'm exited to test this puppy out! I can't wait to see what you guys think of it!

How to Play

exchange your low-cost card for an opponent's high-cost cards over and over by countering/deathtouching. Soul ransom for an opponents' aggressive creatures or for extra cards, which should be in short supply for your opponent with the constant exchanging. As long as you have that second swamp, zealot to me is like a
murder-plus because you can use it for damage.

Note:A lot people play vampiric link wrong; it says enchant creature, not enchant creature you control, which means that you can give it to an opponent's creature and benefit from the life-gain, or at the very least make attacking you worthless (As you gain life equal to what you lost.)

Deck discussion for True Zugzwang

People also don't realise that Vampiric Link (Spirit Link and Spirit Loop too) is worded in such a way that it's effect stacks (it's NOT lifelink) :P

Also, a word of warning. A creature with Vampiric Link on it can still kill you. The following rule explains it:

You only gain the life when the triggered ability resolves. If you are reduced to zero life before the ability resolves, you will lose before gaining the life.

True, but they could only deal the finishing blow, and whenever you block, you get their power in lifegain.

Maybe Victim of Night would be better than Ultimate Price? Of course you need 2 black to cast it but against some decks Ultimate Price is a dead card.

I can always ruin a multi-colored creature with many of my other cards. I see a lot of mono-colored creatures in my community, so I think price will work for my purposes; But if we look at it general? multi-colored creatures account for under a fifth of all the creatures legal in modern, and less than half of the mythics. While there are a few decks where I couldn't find any opportunity to use it, they would be few and far between. I see Victim of night being a plausible alternative, you could certainly use it if you wanted, but I don't feel the need to change my style. Thank you for the suggestion!

I personally prefer Go for the Throat, with a replacement in sideboard for if you go up against an artifact heavy deck. Ultimate Price can't target colourless artifacts either, so a replacement in sideboard might be a good idea anyway. My normal replacement is Doom Blade.
