HateBears, is a weird deck from modern. It's a Control-Aggro Mix. It sets up "Bears" which are characterized as X1 mana cost with a 2/2 body. But, what makes these particular "bears" special is that in addition to an already good 2/2 body for 2 CMC is some sort of "Hate" effect. Example of a bear:Card Name:Grizzly BearsMana Cost: 1GConverted Mana Cost:2Types:Creature — BearFlavor Text: "Don't worry about provoking grizzly bears; they come that way."P/T: 2 / 2No doubt this is a mediocre creature that can hit for 2 on turn 3 which is pretty alright. But Hatebears like this take it to a whole new level. Example:Card Name: Leonin ArbiterMana Cost: 1WConverted Mana Cost: 2Types: Creature — Cat ClericCard Text: Players can't search libraries. Any player may pay 2 for that player to ignore this effect until end of turn.Flavor Text: "Our people are torn by infighting. Until the two sides reconcile, our laws can carry no meaning."Watermark: MirranP/T: 2 / 2Now, a 2/2 body that can hit for 2 and makes searching libraries a costly procedure is simply amazing.
Play your Bears and make your opponents lives harder while you still hit their face. Cards like Mana Tithe and Path can get rid of threats your bears can't effect. Horizon Canopy can draw you cards when you are running low on fuel and Gavony Township can boost your Bears to 3/3s or 3/2s or make them larger to 4/4s and 4/3s.Overview of the HateBears:Aven Mindsencor: Deck searchingDryad Militant: Flashback/ Storm shenanigansGaddock Teeg: Big Spells and X spellsJudges Familiar: Instants and SorceriesQasali Pridemage: Enchantments or ArtifactsThalia: Non-creatures in generalAggro and Threats:Kitchen Finks: Lifegain and Takes multiple creatures when it dies.Knight of the Reliquary: Deck Thinning and a Huge creature that doesn't die to burn.(Can die to Path)Thalia: Is a HateBear as well as a 2/1 first striker that can beat face and is harder to trade because of first strike. Probably the 2nd most important card in this deck because Knight just hits big and thins the deck, But Thalia, covers the hatebear aspect and the aggressiveness aspect of creatures.
