Deck Description

It is a budget competitive standard esper colored (not really legit esper) deck i am making to mainly go against jund decks. liliana is in there because i have it and thought it wouldn't hurt. i have almost all the cards, i just need to go out and buy some more of the commons and such. Please help out. While posting this i realized that i may have way too much removal as well. cancel is in the sideboard to get rid of the flashfreezes if i go against other non-jund colored decks. If its not worth to make this deck though (after all the suggestions you may have), lemme know so i dont pursue it any further. thank you for the help : )

You want an anti-Jund deck? That sounds like fun... I'm going to make one, check it out in a minute.

lol, roughneck, your comment made me laugh, if you want esper controll, basically, i say, ditch all of your creatures, add in 4x tidehullow scullers, the nighthawks are pretty good in my meta, so i would keep them, maybe even add in one more, conider, inkwell leviathan, you have enough cards to stall out, it has shroud, it's a huge beater, and a bigger defender, i ran it in my esper, and it was a for sure finisher i could rely on, and it is a cheap rare, i'd say two of em, knight of the white orchid is okay, concider taking it out for the w/u knight with exalted, you can keep in the architects, they're pretty good.

lily ehh, she's decent, but tezeret would be better in my instance of esper. the spreading seas i wouldn't think of running, i'd take em for two more ior ruin expeds, ditch the excomunicate for three more paths, and it would really level out to be more controll like,... bleh, big comment, take my advice as you see fit, i've ran esper controll, i like it, and i liked the way i had my dek set up.

wow. thanks deathsaur and jund4lyfe. ill get on obtaining some more paths (ive been working on that for a while- if i had 4, i would have put em up), some scullers (those are incredible by the way thanks for that), if i happen to come across an inkwell i might put it in, if i come across those vectis cards and the cloak and sleep, i might put those in as well. the sphinx as as iplaymagic suggested would be nice but its expensive for a budget deck i think i can go without it. thanks for all of the comments so far!!!!

Thanks for the help Roughneck...

Okay, all I can tell you is this: I'm sort of confused as to the general strategy of this deck. Celestial Purge, Path to Exile...Liliana?! For this deck, Flashfreeze should be in your sideboard, not Cancel. You should have Clone in your Main Deck (amazing card). As a rule of thumb, put color specific cards in your sideboard i.e. things with Landwalk, spells like Deathmark and Flashfreeze. Your Main Deck should be balanced so that it can perform well against any opponent; the sideboard should only serve to give you a slight edge against certain colors. As a start (if you're on a budget), I'd go either straight blue or blue/black. You say you're making a sort of anti-Jund deck, but a lot of your cards (Excommunicate, Into the Roil, Architects of Will, Vectis Dominator...) just seem to be delaying the inevitable. I'd recommend scrapping the Plains cards and just going Blue/Black. I'd add Cancels, a few more Reckless Scholars, Vampire Nighthawks, and a Sage Owl or 3 (or 4). Bala Ged Thief, Duress, and Mind Rot are all inexpensive Standard legal black cards that can help with Liliana's +1 ability. For the blue part of your deck, you can use Into the Roil to bounce your opponents creatures and then counter them when they're played again. Sage Owl and Ponder assure that you'll get the card you want. Mind Spring, Ior Rune Expedition and Merfolk Looter are cheap blue cards that assure you'll get the card you want when you want it. I'd forget Architects of Will. If you absolutely must have the Plains cards in your deck, I'd invest in Hindering Light, White Knight, and Kiss of the Amesha.

Hope this helps.

i need to keep the white- the removal is essential. but thanks for reminding of the looter. i have to find those. id rather have those than the scholars. I dont need bala because that only really helps with allies. But i also need the into the roils and the architects and dominators- after all, it is a control deck. thanks for the suggestions though, i will def look into them.

Take out the Reckless Scholar, there are more efficient methods of card drawing and he doesn't help you if you're topdecking.

Also, you're running alot of creatures. I'd run 4 wall of omens, maybe a couple of tidehollow scullers, and 3 or 4 sphinx of jwar isle/ baneslayer angel.

Path to exile is definitely a four-of. You need some board sweepers like Day of Judgment or Consume the Meek.

Get rid of Excommunicate, Crystallization, Flashfreeze and Celestial Purge. Excommunicate is very inneficient, crystallization is easily replacable by Condemn or others like it. Flashfreeze and Celestial Purge are great sideboard cards, however, they're dead cards in many situations.

take out knight of the white orchid- you need two white mana then it gets you a white source. nothing in your deck needs three white mana so...
also try wall of omens and baneslayer
