Start by laying out some small guys, such as the Screechers. They can provide mild defence against one toughness flyers. The Guards are a great way to set up a defence early game, knocking out the smaller creatures while you draw enough mana to pull out the big ones. Knight of Obligation can help pull off extorts and provide some easy defence, however, he can turn into an offensive monster if Sunbond is played on him. High Priest of Penance will discourage opponents from attacking and is a good target for Sunbond, but he shouldn't be played early game unless an opponent has some heavy permanents out. Crypt Ghast helps out the heavy mana supply needed for all the extorts, as well as the high costing creatures. Pontiff of Blight ensures that you will always have extort on the battlefield, which can lead to a game ending early. The large collection of removal and disable spells such as Mortify, Murder, One Thousand Lashes, and Unmake will allow the extortion to flow freely and unprovoked. Debt to the Deathless can really hurt if enough mana is paid, even more if it is a multiplayer game. Teysa can turn the tide of a game if an opponent is playing a particularly aggressive deck, while the Ghost Council provides two free extorts a turn, as well as a 5/5 haste. Swap out some of the removes with some in the sideboard if the match is fitting. Agent of Masks provides one free extort a turn, and Treasury Thrull is great way of getting your creatures back if the opponent is playing some form of discard, or if more creatures are needed alive in general.
