Deck Description

Pretty much I have to hit a Treasure Hunt, Fastbond, Island, and Forest in my opening draw or Mulligan until I do.

Turn One- Forest, Fastbond
Turn Two- Treasure Hunt, Hope to hit forests and a Waiting in the Weeds. If I do, I can put 13 Forests, take 13 damage. Get 10 Cat tokens from Waiting in the Weeds.
Turn three- Contested War Zone, Utilize the +1 ability, and attack with most of them.
Turn Four- Same thing as team three.

Deck discussion for Waiting in the WeedsTurn 4 win

You could increase the chances for forests by including dual lands that are both Island and Forest (Breeding Pool and Tropical Island) and maybe lands that can fetch forests (like Misty Rainforest).

Wish I had the money for Breeding Pool or Tropical Island.

Looking again I may be able to afford Breeding Pool. Thanks for the heads up.

hell you could even use yavimaya coast. you're already taking some occasional damage as it is

Except that Yavimaya Coast isn't a Forest nor an Island.

I know it wouldn't trigger Waiting, but I'm saying that it's an alternative in case you don't have a full set of tropical island on hand

That is not a bad idea at all. To replace 4 of the Islands. Thanks for the heads up.

Little risky, but I like it.

Thanks. It is risky but if it hits I am gold. I figured on a budget it can be a pretty effective deck.

Do you think I should toss in a Moment's Peace or two?

That only prevents combat damage. I'd throw in something that prevents all damage.

Are there any lands that prevent damage?

Maze of Ith and Kor Haven. Both can stop one creature from doing damage.
Prahv, Spires of Order requires a lot of mana, {4}{W}{U} and tapping itself, so effectively 7 mana, to prevent damage from one source.

What about Glacial Chasm for one turn? Essentially a Fog. Is it worth it?

Could work. Even worth dropping the turn you play Waiting. Just make sure to sacrifice a land already tapped for casting Waiting.

While it requires white mana to activate, Blighted Steppe can give you 2 life per creature you control.

Westvale Abbey is another finisher worth considering. It is indestructible, has haste, flying, and lifelink.

Thank you very much for the info. Might be worth figuring out a way to run blighted steppe. Gives me the life to make up for fast bond

Blighted Steppe would require white to activate, which means you'll need to include Forest Plains; ie Canopy Vista; Savannah; and / or Temple Garden. Hallowed Fountain; Prairie Stream; and / or Tundra are worth considering too, but they're not forests.

Like maybe a few Fortified Villages?

They might be out of your price range, but breeding pool would be good instead of some islands

I wish my man. Just alitte out of my price range at the moment. Maybe soon though.

Have you considered Howl of the Night Pack? I know it's a 7 drop, but it sounds like if your strategy works, you'll have no problem laying it and only you will get a bunch of 2/2 instead of 1/1 for all forests. Although, I realize it would mess with the title if you were to put it in :3

The more nonlands, the less effective the main combo.

I guess he means Howl of the Night pack instead of Waiting in the Weeds? I mean it would work instead of Waiting in the weeds, as would the saproling sorcery that you can put tokens onto the battlefield equal to the number of forests you control. Same with Dungrove Elder. I just picked waiting in the weeds because its fun to beat people with cats.

Deck runs well against basically any deck that isn't a legacy deck with Mox opals and such. Fastbond gets countered and I lose, other wise for casual match up's it runs pretty well.

How so? Even in casual you can die pretty fast these days if you spend you deal yourself 13 damage early on ... it's also not hard to kill a bunch of 1/1s.

* Currently this deck isn't legal in ANY format, not even Vintage, because Fastbond happens to be restricted (only one copy allowed)!

* Waiting in the Weeds is pretty much obsolete since Beacon of Creation exists. It costs one mana more but you'll still get more tokens since it counts tapped Forests, too. More importantly, though, it doesn't create tokens for the opponents like Waiting in Weeds does!

* A way better combocard for Treasure Hunt is Land's Edge respectively Seismic Assault:
- You only need 2 cards (which is crucial - as the deck is you need to have so much luck)
- You don't damage yourself
- Can't be stopped by blockers, mass removal, Fog etc.

True to all of your points on Waiting in the Weeds, but I honestly just like the card and cats lol, and find it more rewarding to win with them instead of Seismic Assault or Zombie infestation.

And in response to your first post, I meant it runs well against my friends. It is not a deck that is going to dominate even with one fastbond that makes it Vintage legal, but it is fun to play and does pretty well. Thats really it.

Well, my groups tries to have their decks legal in at least one format (usually Vintage) but each to his own :)

Okay, so it's a deck made for the love of a specific card, I understand that pretty well. Sometimes you just HAVE to make some card shine^^ My groups still thinks I am nuts for playing with Floral Spuzzem. What's not to love about a card that is selfaware and can make decisions of his own?

You should try and get your OCC started again. heely did the same thing you do, just an easier card to do it with.

Nice deck! I was just wondering why you said that turn one you play fastbond and then just pass but you could just hunt then right? You have all the land drops that turn. :)

I honestly didn't think about playing any first turn, but you make a very valid point. Thanks for the info and kind words.
