Deck Description

This is my attempt at a tournament-quality infect deck. I am borrowing the Stoneforge Mystic aspect of the popular Caw-Go decks, but in place of Squadron Hawks, we have Inkmoth Nexus in the air.

Distortion Strike, Tumble Magnet, and ultimately Venser will help create unblockable infectors, while equipment and Tempered Steel will give them some muscle.

Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Deck discussion for Caw Go Infect

I like the fact that you're changing it up, but one of the benefits to using the Hawks is the fact that you get the other 3 just for playing 1. So you are assured 4 creatures and it helps to thin the deck raising your overall odds of winning. Statistically speaking, Squadron Hawks are awesome!

I agree the hawks have crazy card advantage, but in this deck they would only be useful as blockers. I mainly wanted to borrow the equipment engine.

Great idea, but I'd drop the core prowler for the Hawks even without Jace in the mix.

I'd probably put in both Swords main deck.

Hmm, still skeptical about the hawks in infect. Do you think they'd be that good in this deck? I can agree with the sword.

I think so just because they fly and you know you always have a creature to cast.

Only put out one Hawk out at a time, and keep the others in your hand to avoid mass removal spells. Then drop a second Hawk and equip. They destroy it? Do it again.

Gives u a good flying creature for at least 4 turns worth of beating.

Plus that makes them pay attention to two different threats at once. Hmm.. what to destory? the pesky little Hawk wielding a magic sword? Or the ink spewing Phyrexian beast that's hulked out because of Tempered Steel? Most decks can't do both at once, and if they do pyroclasm or black suns, you have a Spare Hawk in hand ready to go for some Sword fighting =D

You make a good point, and I think that even though they won't do infect damage, they can be useful because of the swords and the deck thinning.

+4 Squadron Hawk
-4 Core Prowler

I worry that it won't reach the critical mass of infect creatures it needs, even with Inkmoth Nexus. Will deck thinning from lands and hawks make up enough for that?

I think the addition of Jace over Venser is just too good to let it go.. you don't NEED 4 tho.. 2 or 3 would be great. Also, against aggro.. look to Gideon Jura. Damn is he good in this kind of deck.

I posted up a version. Let me know what you think. Still working on the sideboard.

Rebalanced the lands to favor white more strongly:

-2 Scalding Tarn
-1 Marsh Flats
-1 Island
+1 Plains
+3 Arid Mesa

By the way, I like your version MUCH better than the usual. I may have to try making a version of it based off of your infect idea. I think i may play Jace tho, and utilize birds and the infect creatures.. hmmmm..

Thanks for the compliment. Let me know how Jace works out, I'm wondering if his card advantage will be more important to this deck than Venser's -1 unblockable.

No problem man.. i just think you're onto something here.

Unfortunately, that's why the regular version of this deck works so well is the synergy between Jace and the Squadron Hawks. Look it up.. you can potentially draw 3 cards a turn with Jace and the Hawks..

JTMS is crazy, but I think this deck should be playing out its creatures on turns 2-4, then going for the kill on 5-7. To go the JTMS route would slow the deck down a bit and I think it would require control spells, which would really take the deck in a different direction than I intended. However, if you wind up playing your deck, let me know how it works out since I'm not totally convinced that Jace wouldn't work out.

Another benefit to Venser, other than his -1 unblockable ability being crazy with infect, is that his +2 blink ability has excellent synergy with Tumble Magnet and Stoneforge Mystic.

I agree with you, my version I'm running:
3 Jace
2 Gideon
1 Venser

Well, that's the thing. Jace can buy you the time you need and give you the draw power once your hand is close to empty. Plus, he's great to have if THEY have Jace lol. He counters himself haha! Maybe sideboard him and surprise them? I'm not sure yet what's best.

Also, I don't think you would have to go all counterspell crazy if you add in Jace, just throw some in the sideboard in case you need them.

Either way, I'll definitely let you know how it goes in testing. I'll test both versions and let u know how they play in comparison.

this decks look good as already suggested jace is a great card definetly main deck but you could sideboard it and sub it in in game two just to keep them guessing as to what your deck style is. also there are really no great infect flyers for attacking so the hawks are awesome for defense or sword them more for the effects than the damage. like the deck keeps your opponenet guessing
plz comment on my deck
