I considered having Hero but I decided they were just too costly. I may yet change my mind though. If I did, what would you substitute?

Thanks, the Icy Manipulator is something I am definately considering. Regarding Blinding Souleater, I thought about it but Blinding Mage is cheaper to play (2 mana instead of 3) and I don't want to have too many "Pay one mana, tap target creature" as I'd probably not have enough mana available to cast my instants or artifacts.
