Deck Description

My friends and I have challenged one anoth to build a decklist in colors that we've never built as a commander list before out of cards that we already possess without purchasing anything new. Luckily I had quite a few decent cards in green and white in my EDH collection, and since I've been wanting to build a Selvala deck for a long time I figured I would go ahead and cram everything together into a deck and just update it as I please until it becomes a perfected list. I left Austere Command, Asceticism, Emeria Shepherd, and Eternal Witness in the sideboard because I ran across them but couldn't find them again in my collection later. They are very excellent includes, and will probably be my first updates to the list after our playgroup plays our initial decks. This challenge is pretty fun, and I hope to do it again later this year. Obviously I have invested a bit into my collection, and a lot of these EDH cards go unused because deckbuilding is a long process when you're not able to continuously invest into it. If anyone tries the challenge, leave a link to the list in the comments and I'll check it out!

How to Play

As an update, I have officially played around 15 or so games with this deck and it is hilarious. I have achieved personal goals of having upwards of ten mana by turn three on multiple occasions, I have assembled draw engines that rips dozens of cards in a turn, and this list sneaks wins from all over the place. However, the deck has a few obvious flaws such as a lack of flying creatures and fewer mana sinks or game ending threats than I would like. It also lacks efficient sustainability and relies on the table to play slowly in order to make the most of the few threats the deck has. This deck's greatest asset is ambiguity, drawing cards and flooding with mana tends to scare people, but keeping three or four small utility creatures and/or artifacts on the board feigns a look of having no threat. Realistically, there are a couple of important threats to note, and Protean Hulk will very easily remind you as to why it was banned for several years. So, your lines of play tend to be along these general themes:

1- Land Selvala early, no one is ever upset to Parley
2- Selvala pretty much turns your deck on, so be aware of what your opponents draw from Parley
3- You should easily be able to play most cards in your hand within two turns of playing Selvala with her mana acceleration, keep some in hand in case of a wipe
4- After the first couple of board wipes, it is usually safe to start playing seriously
5- A few cards allow you to untap Selvala on your opponents' turns, I recommend waiting until the end step before your turn to activate Selvala several times
6- Explode if possible, rinse and repeat step 5 if you can't take the game.
