Deck discussion for F**k you Jund!

Similar to my Naya deck, which beat 2 Jund deck this week :)

fun deck, but my jund dragon deck could theoretically shred your naya deck, because dragonfire..... Very good deck though. the only thing i would change is i would switch Xenagos with Sarkhan Vol

when running sylvan caryatid alongside MORE mana ramp how come everyone runs elvish mystic instead of axebane guardian? Its a little slower but you get extra mana and better selection.

Because with Mystic + Caryatid you can T1 Forest/Shock/Confluence into Mystic, and T2 Caryatid + Scry Land into T3 with 4 mana available + another land to play that turn (possible 5-drop on T3). Also being 3CMC instead of 1 is a big deal, by the time we can cast 3, we can usually cast a 4 drop. Additionally, would you rather have a Courser of Kruphix, Brimaz, or maybe a Smiter instead of another mana dork?

I like that you brought up Axebane Guardian, it's an interesting card. I can already see a defender style deck with Doran, the Siege Tower. Heck there's even a few walls in M15 leaked already!

I use Axebane Guardian in my Offensive walls deck :D
(Still working on the name :D)

I already did that defender deck with Doran. I also did an EDH deck with Doran, Spiders and Walls :D

I don't see Axebane doing to well in this deck since most don't have defender.

Mystic can not only attack but it allows Loxodon Smiter on t2

ZiaSoulseer, I think I would call a wall deck, attacking : Thorns or something similar. :)

Lol Thorny Bastards :D. Attacking thorns is good too but not to fitting since only a few are plant based :D

Don't forget the fact that it sucks a lot more to have to use a single target removal spell on a 1CMC creature than it does to hit a 3CMC creature.

I had a rough draft for a more aggressive Naya deck not long ago. Ran 3 Domri Rade as the only planeswalker, I think maybe 3-4 Mystic for ramp, and had 4 Ghor-Clan Rampager, 4 Selesnya Charm, and 4 Boros Charm, with Dragons, Fanatics of Xenagos, and Boros Reckoners. Never got around to playing it, but it was a fun idea I might return to.

Ye that's more the brave Naya version its lot faster but a tad less reliable.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still i would cut 2 Elvish Mystic for something

0

Actually I'm going up on the Mytic count, the ramp is so good in these decks, especially early loxodon smiters as they just take over the game very swiftly!

Ok, running more seems as a smart choice.

Going up to 3 and cutting a polukranos, that t2 smiter is just too good

A nice deck gothy and the only suggestion I would have could possibly add in domri races but that is your call and you could add in boros reckoned but you have probably play tested with this deck to see if it is good and it probably is.

And like I said another nice one

Looks like a very solid deck. +1, but, as I'm trying to figure out ways to go anti-jund, do you think you could give me a crash course on how your deck breaks jund? Thanks!

0

Thanks, so Elspeth nails all their big stuff, smiter stops any early attacks it also puts early pressure down. Scooze stops their scoozes and Ajani allows you to go deeper or bigger late game

In doing so, you give up some useful cards (abrupt decay, dreadbore, hero's downfall, etc), but hey, elspeth ftw.

To be honest, I actually prefer Jund, but I built this for my friend who hates jund because I wrecked him with it last standard because he kept fiddling too much with his esper deck!

I understand now. Thanks! I'm not anti=jund, but it would help to understand the mechanics of breaking it down. Too bad I can't give you another +1 heheh.

May be some sideboards could really make it anti-Jund... ...from the main deck, I'd take out Elvish Mystic, add 1 more land & 1 more Elspeth...

0

I disagree, mystic is fantastic and really helps, otherwise this becomes top heavy, during testing 24 land was perfect and sometimes 25 just flooded you, the SB is being devised as we speak as I'm just watching the meta game a little longer before WMCQs

0

2 Mystic is just so instabil... ...then take those out & use 2 Selesnya Charm...

0

I've actually increased the number of Mystics to 3 as they really accelerate into important cards, t3 dragon (w/caraytid) t3 Xenagos, t3 Polukranos and t2 Smiter. Charm didn't perform as well as I had hoped, the mystics are fantastic, and even CVM agrees with me!

Ok... ...3 is fine, just having only 2 didn't make much sense to me... ...it's not a card you want 1-2 copies of...

Sweet deck! Really digging the splashes of red and white here. Just a few suggestions. I like Boros Charm in here instead of Mizzium Mortars. I think you'll have enough removal with your Polukranos, Smiters, Stormbreath dragons, and banishing light. Plus Boros gives you options which is always nice.

Stick with 4 Mystics. It's way too good of a first turn play to run anything less than 4. A turn 3 smiter is an awesome offensive move, but a turn 3 courser is even better imo. Such a borken card.

I'm also not a huge fan of Elspeth in here. Definitely great synergy with Xenagos, but I think Garruk might fit better. Could be just my preference too.

Good stuff!

Edit: I also like the card Destructive Revelry, maybe 2 in the sideboard.

1
Posted 24 June 2014 at 20:52

Revelry is defo in the SB and there has to be a play off of early mystic ramp to late game draw when you really want that Elspeth! Garruk is so good, but he doesn't take over games as much as elspeth. Boros charm only hurts players, and that board wipe is sickening!!! I've played up against this deck (won 2-1 with humans) but so close! The fun ones I lost afterwards were to Elspeth or overloaded mortars.
Really great advice though! Thanks!

Right on. Too true about the Elspeth taking over games. The only time I can get a jump on Elspeth with Garruk is:
t1 elvish mystic, t2 courser of kruphix, t3 sylvan caryatid and scavenging ooze, t4 garruk, then use his -3 to play Worldspine Wurm right away. Now that's some evil sh*t

If you want to win WMCQs and (during standard season) PTQs you can't get there in the end with budget... boss sligh not included! Naya probably is the most expensive deck in standard, and sometimes it ISN'T worth it, but you guys seem to like it!

Perhaps you could use chained to the rocks instead of banishing light? Or a combination if both(eg 2 chains 1 light) so you can still bag other permanents

0
Posted 25 June 2014 at 00:55

Ye I was thinking about that, but chain was too situational and can't deal with non-creature gods. I've found banishing light as just a better card during my current meta, but still testing to make it perfect! Thanks for the advice will test it this evening.

0

I run 2 banishing light, 1 chained to the rocks in my Naya main, with 1 extra of each in the sideboard. Having a 1CMC answer to a big creature like Desecration Demon, Archangel of Thune, heck even something annoying like Master of Waves is too good to pass up.

That is pretty budget, for sure!!
I do like the mana ramp you have going on!

1st. Master Biomancer
2nd. Horned Turtle
3rd. Sakashima's Student

What does that get you?
A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle!

Budget isn't strong enough sometimes! I mean lets take a look at all those power decks in standard, best cards in standard at the moment are mutavault, Elspeth and thoughtseize. All expensive cards that win games. I mean we do on vault love janky decks that are cool but look at the top cards in standard lately http://www.mtggoldfish.com/format-staples/standard

OK ladies and gentlemen, give me a hand with this SB! Thanks in advance!

My deck is built a little differently, but I run 1 Banishing Light, 1 Chained to the Rocks, 2 Deicide, 3 Mizzium Mortars, 4 Mistcutter Hydras, and 4 Polis Crushers. Seeing as you already have Mortars in the main, I would consider cards like Boros Charm or Selesnya Charm.

In regards to sideboarding, instead of giving you cards to play. I'm gonna list the decks you have to beat.

Esper Control, Jund Monsters, B/G or Mono Black devotion, Mono Blue Devotion, U/W/R Control, Boss Sligh, R/W Midrange, Boros Burn, Jund Midrange, Naya Midrange, G/R Monsters. If you can find which ones you have a positive matchup against pre board, then you can spec your sideboard to be good against the ones that you aren't good against.

But the deck seems solid, congrats.
