Blow up the world and carry on.
Sweep, sweep and sweep again. All of your creatures have the ability to avoid board clears, so you should always control the board state when it comes to creatures.

i suggest having some cards to defend you from damage while you get the mana and the right cards, especially in a situation where you lack mana. Perhaps cards like Dawn Charm and Holy Day might come in handy.

You do have a point.....or maybe some nice life gain.
I will have to give this some thought and actually play test this deck. I don't know what to remove.
Holy Day or Kami of False Hope would be your best bet for damage prevention. As for what to remove - Darting Merfolk. While it is less expensive CMC, it isn't as useful as your flying 2/1 Lantern Spirit which can fly over ground and block flying.
I agree. I will go for the holy days as they can't be taken care of with cheap burn
Ethereal Haze is better than Holy Day because it prevents all damage caused by creatures not just combat damage. Same mana cost...
My friend made an Esper Control Deck that revolves around having a lot of boardwipes (16 I believe) and cards like Haunted Plate Mail and Keyrunes. Mutavault is also a possibility. I like how you took a different spin on it, but my fear is that you wouldn't have enough mana to get your creatures out in time and still have the mana to board wipe.
That is a fear of mine too. I will have to see how the deck runs when I actually build it and go from there
I was seeing the same issue. no ramp, and extra mana abilities, nothing special to get Avacyn out early. So ur looking to hard cast Avacyn at 8 mana. It'll be hard to each that. imo, u need some life gain, and or some sort of extra mana ability.
World slayer seems really slow, you need basically two whole turns to get it going, I think it would be better as an azorious signet. That will help you wrath turn 3 if you need to and play a turn 4 elspeth
The Thing with World Slayer is it wipes out EVERYTHING, leaving your opponent effectively helpless and still facing down whatever you saved from the wipe. It is essentially a kill card.
yes, and yet it also wipes your everything unless Avacyn is out, including your lands. (but I'm sure u knew that already, not trying to patronize you, but maybe other newbies didn't know that)
well he can save avacyn or aetherling because aetherling can bounce in responce to the boom. But if he has either one he's already winning
Yes, the wipe would effect me too, but even having just a couple of illusionists returning to a completely wiped board, let alone the big creatures, would be a huge advantage. If I have to use the Worldslayer, it would be if my enemy has something on their side of the board that is a REAL problem, Niv-Mizzet Firemind with the potential for the Curiousity infinate combo for example. This deck is based around creatures surviving a wipe, though maybe the Lantern Spirits are a mistake as I could not recast them after the Worldslayer goes off. Any suggestions on what to replace them with? Something relatively cheap that phases out or flickers as an activated ability would be preferred.
Cheap Phasing? Depends on what you want but Merfolk Raiders (1U-Islandwalk, Phasing-2/3) is always a decent choice.
No, I need something cheap (mana wise) that phases out or flickers as an activated ability. With the Raiders, I would have to wrath on their schedule, not mine.
I am saddened that there is not at least one Final Judgement in this list.
But it costs 2 more mana, and exiles instead of destroys, which Avacyn cannot be protected from.
Well with illusionist, you can phase Avacyn out before casting it, but I do agree that it isn't a better card in this deck. With no mana ramp or fixing, having another high CMC card in here would only make it harder to play in my opinion.
I know it would hit your stuff too but I just find the most "permanent" sweeper printed not being in a sweeper deck is sad. I agree it wouldn't be good, but I can still be sad about it.
