Deck Description

This deck is a control deck focusing on strong defense (Astral Slide, Wrath of God, Gilded Light) and life-gain (Obstinate Balath, Exalted Angel, Renewed Faith) first; heavy removal (Duplicant, Wrath of God, Plow Under) second; and once the position is secure, finishes with overwhelming force (Decree of Justice + Mirrari's Wake, Eternal Dragon, etc); all the while with massive deck filtering and draw (1 in 3 cards have cycling) and renewable resources (Eternal Witness, Life from the Loam). By mid-game, between Slide, Life from the Loam and Witness, I always have a seven-card hand and choose which cards from my graveyard so I don't need lucky draws, while my opponent scrambles to keep anything in play. Of course, you knew that, that's what a Slide deck generally is.

I will answer before being asked why I leave out Fluctuator: I started playing Slide as a Type II deck years ago (back when Wake won the world championship and there were no Witnesses) and Fluctuator wasn't Type II. Neither is Slide anymore, but the habit stuck.

Some personal notes on this deck: I keep a Loaming Shaman more as protection against decking (with all that draw from cycling, this deck can be prone to it). I like keeping a copy each of Duplicant and Plow Under, because it so fun to turn the opponent's big creatures against him, or drop a Wrath then force him into an endless land-block with recycled Plow Unders. Duplicant also helps with those pesky indestructible types.

Side-board is mostly more ways to to do removal when I want to change it up, especially artifact and enchantment removal since I left that off the main-board in favour of more life-gain.

Anyway, this has been my favourite deck since I started playing late in Onslaught block, and I don't think I'll ever stop playing it (or add Fluctuators to it).

Deck discussion for Eternal Slide

A friend of mine recently challenged me to build a series of decks. We were discussing color splashing and I said (as I am sure many will agree) that green is the easiest color for splashing as it splashes well and naturally with any other color.

So he challenged me to do a "Green And" series. I have 24 hours to build a deck that is "Green And" each color, to demonstrate my premise. The Judges (our other friends) later ruled that this includes "Green And Green." In addition, I have to have at least one each of Tribal, Aggro, Control, Combo and Creatureless (though these are permitted to overlap), to demonstrate versatility.

This one covers green-and-white and control. Even though it's just an update of my oldest deck, it counts.

Once I have them all posted, I will post the links in another comment. I hope you will look at and comment on each!

Adding 2x Sun Titan's will help with returning cards to your hands. I've noticed that My Eternal Witness's are greatly targeted.
Adding 1x Strip Mine can be another great way to trash a few lands. This helps Plow Under and can be left in the graveyard after it is no longer needed.

Changing a few lands out for 4x Drifting Meadow and 4x Slippery Karst will throw Life from the Loam into overdrive.

And adding just one 1x Orim's Chant can add a different way for you to control your opponent.

Also, Morphing creatures can be used to great effect with Astral Slide.

I hope these help. If you get a chance take a look at mine.
