I've been using this deck, or at least some variation of it, since Born of the Gods. This deck is GOOD. I've never NOT placed with this deck at a Friday Night Magic (I always win packs, for example). It is a solid monsters build that basically plays green devotion with a splash of blue for some shenanigans, albeit very effective ones. Think R/G monsters, but with much more versatility.I'm proud as being one of the pioneers of this sort of list. I don't mean that as everybody is playing it; quite the contrary, I'm just some FNM player after all. But I was playing this deck for a while before I saw some versions pop up in some tournaments, so that feels kind of cool.
This deck isn't as fancy shmancy as Reid Dukes Yisan antics, but its simplicity adds to its brutality.Pretty straightforward playstyle - play mana dorks, play monsters, refill hand with planeswalkers, win game. What I want to focus on are the blue aspects as well as a couple of cards that don't usually go in a monster deck format.Kiora's Follower -- Serves as Voyaging Satyr in this last (untap Nykthos), just with some more versatility.Kiora, the Crashing Wave -- I like her more than Domri. As to which one is more effective is up to the individual, but playing additional lands a turn WHILE drawing a card OR locking something down is pretty effective.Prime Speaker Zegana -- C'mon, man. Enters the battlefield fatter than your fattiest creature and draws you cards for it. What more does a monster deck want?Prophet of Kruphix -- If I'm up against a R/G monster deck and I play this, they're screwed. I officially ramp much faster than them, because for every one turn they have to play creatures, I effectively have 2. Other than that, against every other deck, a very solid and scary card -- my favorite out of Theros.Sylvan Primordial/Progenitor Mimic -- I put these two together because of the obvious combo. Nothing ruins somebody's day more than a Progenitor Mimic copying a Primordial. A lot of monster lists don't run Primordial, which makes me sad. He destroys planeswalkers (Screw you, Elspeth!), lands & enchantments (Screw you, mono black!) and anything other than a creature. And he's bigger than most creatures. Make a copy every upkeep? Sign me up! (One of my personal touches here.)Arbor Colossus -- He's in and out of a bunch of different monsters builds, but I keep him because A) he's a 6/6 for 5 mana that can become a 9/9 next turn, B) He adds 3 devotion, and C) he laughs at two of the biggest cards in the format, Desecration Demon and Stormbreath Dragon.
